Review: Cle de Peau Beaute Gentle Cleansing Foam and Balancing Lotion

Most of the basic skin care of Cle de Peau Beaute (CPB) have two formulae, 'refreshing' for oilier skin or people who like a fresh sensation, 'gentle' for drier skin or people who prefer a smoother feeling.  My skin is generally normal to dry, and throughout the consultation, the beauty assistant only considered recommending me the gentle versions - no complaint at all here.  :)

I got all the basics in full size - a cleanser, a lotion, a day emulsion and night one.  I will split up my reviews in parts, and in this one I shall review the first two, because I give them more uses and opinions are formed.

Let me begin by quoting from the CPB website.

Gentle Cleansing Foam (mousse nettoyante tendre)

 Gentle Cleansing Foam

PRODUCT : 4/5
TEXTURE : 5/5
APPLICATION : 3/5
PACKAGING : 2/5
PRICE: 1/5 - HKD480 (~USD61.5) for 110ml

Before I got this, I knew that cleanser doesn't perform miracles, they literally 'wash-off'.  I didn't have unreasonably high hopes for this.  In fact, it is a pretty decent and good cleanser.  Texture-wise it really is top, you get firm foam, very delicate and luxurious feeling, cleanses thoroughly without drying skin out.  FYI, I use this after make up removal.

The application is a little tricky, you need to know how to foam up a cleanser in the Japanese expert way to make the desired thick foam.  Hence the 3/5 for application.  I don't have those hands nor skills, hence I turn to a foaming net.  It is still easy to use and I enjoy that.

Price and scent are the major drawbacks.  I thought for the price, they would either make the smell really natural and organic (not the marketing of this brand I am afraid), or super designer fragrance complex notes.  But it is just a simple, clean, nice scent.  Big disappointment.

Overall Rating: 15/25

Recommend?  Maybe.
For those who like foaming cleanser that doesn't dry out skin,
for those who know the trick to foam up a cleanser,
for those with excessive cash to splurge!

Repurchase?  No.
Cleanser is a cleanser.
I can get a very good one at a quater to one-tenth of this price, serious.

Gentle Balancing Lotion

PRODUCT : 4/5
TEXTURE : 3/5
APPLICATION : 3/5
PACKAGING : 5/5
PRICE: 1/5 - HKD950 (~USD122) for 170ml

I adore its bottle and pump.  For what it claims, I agree that it is conditioning and balancing, not too moisturizing.  Visibly improves texture and glow - not so much.

Generally, I use 3 pumps of this on a Cle de Peau cotton in daytime after washing face with water, and night time after cleanser and shower.  It smooths on nicely and does help the following skin care to apply on better.

My verdict?  This is insanely pricey, I must be mad when I went shopping with my mum and let her buy me this...  It is not worth the price tag and I really hope they can make the smell a little more sophisticated (or just take away the fragrance).
