April Empties Post (31 items!)

This is the last Empties post of this month - read #1 and #2 here.  No redundant introduction, let's go into individual item with short reviews!

Skin Care

#119 - My Beauty Diary, Peach Soda (Taiwan brand/made)
Don't you think the name suggests that this product smells a little peachy or soda-like / or is it just me?  This doesn't smell of anything.  Quite effective in removing make up, for water-proof mascaras I need to use a pre-cleanser (the mascara off oil with a wand).  Not expensive but not super cheap.
Rating: 3/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: Mediocre.
In replacement, currently using: several (including divina and clinique)

#120 - Alpha-H, Balancing Cleanser with Aloe Vera (Made in Australia)
I used this with my Clarisonic Mia.  Non-foaming milk texture, which is quite runny.  Gentle on the skin.  No significant scent.
Rating: 2/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: NA
In replacement, currently using: several others.

#121 - Alpha-H, Triple Action Cleanser with Aloe Vera (Made in Australia)
Use this after using up the previous milky one.  The scent reminds me of the Clarisonic gentle cleanser - date fruit scent!  Gentle.  Nothing special.
Rating: 2/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: NA
In replacement, currently using: A Clinique one, some Japanese drugstore ones

#122 - CareZone, Doctor Solution A-Cure Clarifying Foam Cleanser (Korean brand/made)
This is targetted at problem skin and I like this line in general.  At first I use this occasionally when my skin is a bit unstable - as I'm afraid it will be too harsh or drying.  Towards the end of this tube, I tried to use this up and use it more regularly - actually not drying or too harsh!
Rating: 4/5 + Repurchase: Yes + Reason: In case I need a cleanser for more troubled skin.
In replacement, currently using: several (e.g. alpha-h, naruko)

#123 - Simple, Kind to Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes (UK brand/made)
Gentleness = 10, cleansing properties = 6, price = 8.  Not bad, but not really big fan of wipes - how many times do I need to repeat myself?  I am so glad I've only 1 pack of Divina (Taiwan) left.  :P
Rating: 4/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: not a fan of wipes.
In replacement, currently using: Divina, Bourjois

#124 - Joseristine, Replumping with Marine Matrix Eye Cream (HK brand/made)
Like - gentle, moisturising, help smooth out fine line (visually, at least)
Dislike - smells like burnt plastic, doesn't absorb very well
Rating: 2/5 + Repurchase: no + Reason: the scent
In replacement, currently using: several samples

#125 - Dior Prestige, Revitalizing Eye Cream (French brand/made)
Like - Adorable texture and effect
Dislike - the sample tube design.  price.
Rating: 3/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: not impressed.
In replacement, currently using: several samples

#126, 127 - Joseristine, A3779 Apple Stem Cells Anti-Aging Moisturizing Cream (Hong Kong brand/made)
Decent consistency, decent smell, decent price.  2 samples too few to let me try the renewing/firming efect; just nothing special to make me want it.
Rating: 2/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: NA.
Currently using: too many to name

#128 - Neutrogena, Fine Fairness Brightening UV Moisture (International brand, Made in Korea)
Likes: Souffle texture, dry to the touch once blended in, SPF50+ PA+++ protection.
Dislikes: the strong artificial (melon) scent, not layerable.
Rating: 1/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: dislikes.
In replacement, currently using: several (e.g. new Morning Kiss base, Dr. G, etc)

#129 - Clarins, UV Plus Day Screen Protection  (French brand/made)
Quite thin and light white lotion texture.  Feels good on the skin.  Not too sure of the protection factor.  Forgot about the scent, sorry~
Rating: 4/5 + Repurchase: Maybe + Reason: good stuff.
In replacement, currently using: multiple samples.

#130 - A'Pieu, Daily Pure Block Natural Sun Cream (Korean brand/made)
Like - SPF45 PA+++ protection, quite fresh and natural smell, light liquid
Dislikes - not sure of layerability as I wore it on its own
Rating: 3/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: NA
In replacement, currently using: other samples

#131 - Alpha-H, Balancing Cleanser with Aloe Vera (Made in Australia)
same as above #120

#132, 133 - Priori Advanced AHA Cosmeceuticals Gentle Facial Cleanser
Well, I hate that it says "Lather and gently masage over face" when it doesn't emulsify nor foam... It is a light milky texture... Surprisingly, this formula does seem to give my face a very radiant look after the wash.  Quite like the result I must say.
Rating: 3/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: Meh~
In replacement, currently using: various cleansers.

#134 - La Vie, Dark Circle Correcting Eye Cream (Hong Kong brand, Made in Switzerland)
Like this stuff.  It is a firm gel, which applies very smoothly and on the skin, feels light.  Doesn't improve dark circles much and not good for layering.
Rating: 3/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: Meh~
In replacement, currently using: various sample (e.g. Clinique)

#135 - Laneige, Water Sleeping Pack EX (Korean brand/made)
I used up a pot of its previous original sleeping pack around 10 years ago - back when I wasn't sure why I was doing skin care at all.  Haha.  Now that I revisit this brand's sleeping mask after it become so famous, I can still see why - it is phenomenal in terms of texture, scent and the effect.  Skin still feels moisturised and supple (not sure of crystal clear!?) after 1 full night of sleep under air-conditioning!
Rating: 5/5 + Repurchase: Yes + Reason: Phenomenal!
In replacement, currently using: a lot, including Naruko and other samples

Body and Hair

#136 - Rene Furterer Paris, Astera Sensitive and Irritated Scalp Soothing Shampoo with Cold Essential Oils (French brand/made)
Foams up gently.  Smells like menthol.  Soothing and quite cooling on the scalp.  Leaves hair quite soft, definitely not tangly, but not too moisturising.  Decent to use in current hot and humid weather
Rating: 4/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: Pricey!
In replacement, currently using: several (e.g. Pantene Clinicare)

#137 - Pantene Clinicare, Hair Time Renewal Conditioner (Chinese manufactured)
Good stuff.  Silicone and chemicals filled but leaves my hair soft and super silky and shiny!  My hair band and clips have difficulty holding my hair in place!  Smells amazing and reasonably priced.  Most importantly my scalp doesn't complain about its formulation~
Rating: 4/5 + Repurchase: Maybe + Reason: NA
In replacement, currently using: several (e.g. Mannings, Dove, Esthaar)

#138 - Pantene Clinicare, Color/Perm Damage Repair Conditioner (Chinese made)
Pretty similar to the above.  No complain.
Rating: 4/5 + Repurchase: Maybe + Reason: NA
In replacement, currently using: several (e.g. Mannings, Dove, Esthaar)

#139 - Opal, One Minute Treatment (Chinese brand) See the cover pic far on top!
Used to like this a lot when I was much younger.  Now I find this doesn't treat my hair too well, nor does it smell that good - I'm probably bored of it.
Rating: 2/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: NA
In replacement, currently using: several (e.g. Mannings, Dove, Esthaar)

#140 - Esthaar, Hair Root Care Shampoo (Korean brand/made)
Too drying for the Winter hence I just recently switched it up and started using.  I love this for the current humidity - my hair constantly feels stuck together and damp - but with this, my hair is light and more 'voluminous'.  It still look pretty much the same, though, nothing miraculous.  Plus this is called Hair Root Care so I suppose my hair is growing healthier and my scalp is being taken care of?  :P  Hard to find this brand outside Korea though.
Rating: 5/5 + Repurchase: Maybe + Reason: Hard to find.
In replacement, currently using: several (e.g. Pantene Clinicare)

Random

#1012, 1013 - Kao, Steam Eye Mask (Japanese brand/made)
My left eye was sore and swollen for no reason *probably allergy reaction?* for a good few days this month.  After 2 nights of interrupted sleep, I realise I have these steam eye masks which are good for relaxing and could be used for sleep.  Hence I dig these out and used them.  Eyes feel instantly calmed and the lavender scent did promote good sleep.  I got the new Rose and Eucalyptus and some more back-ups of un-scented ones.  Check out my April's Acquired!Rating: 5/5 + Repurchase: Yes, constantly buying.  Reasons: LOVE

#1014 - Lactacyd, Cleansing Daily Protection
Feminine/intimate wash.  Decent.  Not irritating.  FYI, I don't use this daily as somehow I think this weakens the natural barrier. Not sure of the difference between the different 'formula'.
Rating: 3/5 + Repurchase: Maybe + Reason: Have more backups.
In replacement, currently using: Santa Maria Novella, another Lactacyd

#1015 - Biore, Moisture Body Foam
Too drying for my body - used this to refill my family sink's hand soap bottle.
Rating: 1/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: NA

#1016 - Missha, Perfect Brush Cleanser (Korean brand/made)
Got this when I had some points to spend and some birthday discount, I suppose.  Not effective in cleansing.  Not particularly good smelling nor cheap.
Rating: 1/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: nothing special
In replacement, currently using: Other unwanted soaps, shampoos, Dr. Bronner's Rose Liquid Soap and Clinique brush cleanser

#1017 - fa, Natural & Pure Rose Flower Deo Roll-On (Germany brand/made)
A big fan of Fa's deodorant fragrances.  Got loads of them stocked up.
Rating: 4/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: Want to go alcohol-free.
In replacement, currently using: The Body Shop White Musk for men, other "fa"s.

#1018 - unknown, Bamboo Salt Toothpaste
Korean. This was a souvenir from a friend who've been to Korea.  It was decent, slightly minty, slightly salty.  I used up the whole tube myself... :P  I feel like it is not 'clean' and 'refreshing' enough.  But very gentle on the gum.  *when did I start reviewing toothpaste?*
Rating: 2/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: NA.
In replacement, currently using: Colgate

#1019 - Colgate, Maximum Cavity Protection - Great Regular Flavour Toothpaste
My family was using this and I managed to help use this up...  Nothing too spectacular, really!
Rating: 3/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: I will continue using what my family is using right now, then I may go and purchase something more adventurous. haha

#1020 - Ardell/LashGrip, Eyelash Adhesive
This came in a set with lashes and applicator and this.  Technicall I didn't use this up, it separated like the dark ones, and no longer dries.
Rating: 0/5 + Repurchase: No + Reason: no good.
In replacement, currently using: D-up

A few words:
  • If anyone knows the best way to clean liquid foundation stuck in foundation brushes, please share with me :S
  • Despite using up things in quite a fast pace, and withholding my purchase for skin - body - hair - care stuff, why do the p20sc and p20bh still seem forever to end???
  • Masks I still want to get, which I shouldn't, include: Puresa Rose, Puresa Collagen, Puresa Pearl, Kose Clear Turn White.
  • I shall be withholding my shopping passion in May totally.  Because I am going to Tokyo in June for some crazy insane beauty shopping!!!!!!

    1. hehe I cheated a little becoz a good portion of those are samples, and some are 'family-used-up' instead of just me. I love those Kao steam masks. so good. I'm gonna start using the rose one tonight and see how it smells. Thx for visiting and commenting!

  4. If you finished a product everyday you would still be +1 for the month! lol Great post! I tried the simple wipes recently and I really liked them but I agree they dont remove makeup all that well.

    1. hehe - i kind of cheated by including those random bits... I really enjoy making empties post (perhaps i'm THAT close to beauty-mental-breakdown) haha. wipes aren't generally what I go for, I'm just using them up for good sake. I read/heard from Niuer (naruko's creator guru) that, if wipes are what you like to use, baby wipes are same good - not that I'll be converted to wipes though. :)

    2. I dont like wipes because they often put scents or like flower extract etc etc in them and they almost always break me out. Empties post give me a sense of achievement and kind of curb the guilt when I do cave and buy a beauty product. I have been pretty good this year, no major purchases yet. I think I realized how long I actually take to use up a product and the fear of spoilage is being more apparent to me.

    3. can't agree more with the sense of achievement. but it seems to somehow encourage me to keep buying. now that i physically see the fact that my storage cannot hold that much beauty stuff, i really needa stop buying (probably this month)... :S

I'm expecting to use up A LOT MORE in MAY! :D

    1. yep yep. Do give samples a try. I am adventurous and love trying new things. Samples help. Say, if 1 thing from this brand doesn't work, it somehow also helps me 'eliminate' certain brands or categories of things from my wish-list... :P
