Blogust #14 - Dr. Hauschka is better than Lush

Not always true, but that's what I feel when I use this product.

Another skin care review!  This time it is a cleaner-slash-exfoliator, non-foaming cream, from Dr. Hauschka.  Sorry my tube was from Germany, hence the German.  The English full name is simply: Dr. Hauschka Cleansing Cream.

From the website, Quote:

Information
Gentle cleansing with Dr.Hauschka Cleansing Cream morning and evening is the basis for successful care. Selected herbal extracts such as marigold, chamomile, St. John'swort and kidney vetch mildly invigorate and refresh the skin. The creamy almond base preserves the natural hydrolipid mantle of the skin. Cleansing Cream also tightens the pores, promotes elimination and clarifies the skin. For a clear, rosy complexion apply Dr.Hauschka Cleansing Cream morning and evening as basic cleansing care. Its creamy mild formula is suitable for all skin types.

Ingredients
Aqua, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Seed Meal, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Anthyllis Vulneraria Extract, Alcohol, Arachis Hypogaea Oil, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract, Hypericum Perforatum Flower/Leaf Extract, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Hamamelis Virginiana Bark/Leaf Extract, Triticum Vulgare Germ Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil, Parfum, Citronellol*, Geraniol*, Malpighia Punicifolia Fruit Extract, Xanthan Gum, Algin.
*component of natural essential oils

Tips:
Step 1
First moisten the face with luke warm water. Then place about 2 cm Dr.Hauschka Cleansing Cream on the moist palm of the hand.
Step 2
Mix the Cleansing Cream with a little water in your hand to produce a creamy emulsion. This produces a mild cleanser which, thanks to its cream base, cleanses the skin gently and thoroughly without irritating it.
Step 3
From the centre outwards, distribute the emulsion over the whole face and press in lightly using gentle rolling movements.
Important: keep the emulsion moist, do not rub it in or use like a scrub.
Step 4
Moisten the hands and repeat the procedure described above. Then remove the remaining cream with luke warm water. Finish by rinsing your face with cool water to support the action of the Cleansing Cream (use luke warm water for sensitive skin).

My Review

PRODUCT : 4/5
TEXTURE : 5/5
APPLICATION : 5/5
PACKAGING : 2/5
PRICE: 4/5 - very reasonable if obtained in Germany

In case you're wondering, I meant to compare this to Lush Angels on Bare Skin, hence the post title.  However, I do not own the AOBS now, so I'll just roughly point out the similarities.  Both have beautiful scents.  The Dr. H scent is lovely, a little citrusy, very herbal, and slightly alcoholic, perhaps due to some fermentation going inside the tube?  Honestly, this is the only area in which I think I prefer AOBS.  Angels on Bare Skin's fragrance is just divine!

Dr. Hauschka's texture is a funny mixture of cream, bits that look like oats or plant skin, very fine, but still has that exfoliation feeling.  The whole cream is very nicely blended and emulsifies nicely.  On the other hand, Lush AOBS has really funky lavender (or plant) bits, which in my opinion isn't helpful in cleansing, just merely disturbing.

Cleansing power is alright, not as strong that will remove make up, but definitely a little more in-depth than a light cleansing milk.  I don't use this daily as a cleanser, but on days I don't use my clarisonic, this acts as my 2nd cleanser plus scrub.

Feels natural and nourished with this cleansing cream.  Calming, too!

Claims

1 - mildly invigorate and refresh?  totally agree
2 - tightens the pores?  it helps, but not magically
3 - promotes elimination and clarifies the skin?  don't quite understand... :P

Minor drawback:

1 - Only good for a few months (short shelf life) because it has little or no preservatives
2 - Not foaming.  Foam lovers may find this not deep-cleansing enough
3 - Aluminium packaging looks neat, but not the most practical.  I'd rather this comes in a pot.

Final words

Overall Rating: 20/25

Hurray, Okay or No Way?  Okay.

Recommend?  Yes.  Especially if you like the kind of gentle exfoliator/cleanser like Lush Angels on Bare Skin.  This is much better in consistency.

Repurchase? Maybe.

If I can re-make this, I will replace this Dr. Hauschka Cleansing Cream's scent with Lush Angels on Bare Skin's aroma.  Other than that, perhaps I'll also change the packaging to something more use-friendly.

I love Dr. Hauschka as a brand overall.  I have tried their toners, mositurisers, lip products, masks and body lotion... All is really natural, organic, smells good, works well, and not expensive...  I highly recommend this brand, especially if you can get them in Germany!

    1. The trouble is to find a decent pot to hold it :P actually it is fine in the tube (quite good looking), as long as I don't use it too often I won't get impatient....

You have to! Its scent is interesting indeed...

  2. It is packaged in the airless aluminum tube to prevent breakdown of the botanicals. It will keep longest outside of the shower, in a cooler drier spot.
Properly applied it connects to the lymph and gives an internal and external cleanse.
    I obviously love it!!
