Holiday FOTD | Tom Ford Frenzy

Happy Holidays, everyone!  All the best wishes to you in this time of the year where some of us Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, while others share love and hope with their family and friends.  May your days be merry, bright and joyful all year round~  I have had an amazing Christmas joining the choir during the midnight mass celebration, having parties and presents, laughing with my family and having a lot of good food.  In case you're wondering, the nail designs are NOT by me, but my amazing sister Jen.  She's been picking up her nail art brush during this Winter break and kindly gave me some snowflakes and snowmen.  Aren't they adorable?

I heard that Tom Ford is now sold in Hong Kong at limited department stores or shops; have not had the time to visit those yet, but I finally have the opportunity to play with the goodies my girlfriend got me from UK - I have been saving them for special occasions, and what time in the year can be more special than Christmas?

As I wore this look from 6pm to 2am, I need something that will last and not worry me with smudging or melting.  On the other hand, I want sparkle but not something too loud for I'll be spending a good amount of time in the Church.  So I settled for some light golden shimmers and easy berry lips/cheeks.  The two glitter shadows in the Tom Ford Eye Color Quad are indeed grown-up glitters.  I applied the light brown taupe shade all over my lid, and pressed the two glitter shades on top - lighter on the 'eyeballs', darker near the outer corners.  They stick all day/night and they shine.  Feels so comfortable on, and I do not regret getting this palette just for the glitters!  Frantic Pink, the Cheek Color is a spectacular peachy pink.  The shimmer infused is ultra-fine, not accentuating pore issues at all.  Lasting power is impressively strong and I can still see color on my cheeks at 2am!

Besides Tom Ford, there are also some honourable mentions.  Skindinavia setting spray helped a lot to make my foundation and concealer to hold.  Nars Pro Prime Eyeshadow Base is a great primer, although I have to remove the divider/stopper thing in order to get the product out.  Wearing Kiss Me Volume and Curl over Long and Curl is my current go-to mascara combo.  This was my first time putting the Make Up Forever Aqua Brows on, and it went pretty fool-proof - the key is to use the tiny bit as most bloggers said.  Read everything I have used on my face below!

Review | Skincode Cellular Power Concentrate Ampoules

While I'm writing up this review, I'm on the last drop of my 5th little bottle of these Skincode Exclusive - Cellular Power Concentrate Ampoules*.  Phew, long name.  Considering the fact that I received these 6 little serums/concentrate just around the end of November, this is an indication of how much I enjoy using it.  In order to test this out, I went all in and stopped using my other facial serums, with the exception of some Naruko Rose usages where my skin is extra dry.

Skincode has a Swiss origin and this serum is made in Switzerland.  Skincode makes two line, the primary one is called 'Essentials', while the higher grade line is 'Exclusive' with patent ingredients to actively regenerate cells.  This set of serums has no artificial colourings, preservatives nor fragrance.  I love how it came in little ampoule bottles; very cute and keep the content fresh.  The product itself is a slightly thick water gel texture, has a barely noticeable hint of alcohol/fragrance. Absorbed in the skin in seconds, I notice improvement in hydration, size of my pores (on the cheeks) and fine expression lines (I tend to laugh too much).

My final verdict?  To my relatively young skin, this is definitely an Okay product.  Nice as an intensive treatment once in a while, or as instructed, every 6 to 8 months.  I do not think it is a must-have for young skin with generally less ageing issues.  However, for more mature skin or skin that is under great stress or extreme condition, this set of serums is some great Hurray stuff.  Perfect to procure as a gift for your senior family members. ;)

Chocolate NOTD | Boots 17 Cocoa Cabanna

My favourite shade of nail polish is hands down, chocolate brown.  I love any shade ranging from milk chocolate to dark chocolate.  One of my all time favourite is a discontinued brown from Bourjois, in the old So Laque formula.  Anyway...  In this post I'm going to share with you my current base coat UNT Prelude Base Coat, and one of the beautiful chocolate brown Sam sent me from UK.

The 17 High Gloss Nail Polish in Cocoa Cabanna is really glossy.  The formula is pretty.  The shade is delicious.  It is a medium dark warm brown with a tiny hint of purple.  I love it a lot!

If you're wondering, yes, the ring featured in this post is also from Joyeux Amour, an etsy shop my friends and I opened.  Use the coupon code "BEAUTYSKETCH" for 10% off anything, everything!  We are currently doing free international shipping~~

Have a Warm Winter, Merry Christmas, or Happy Holidays!

Purple FOTD | Phlox Face Chart Sketching

First of all, have you seen my new blog banner above??  Comments please!  I personally am loving it... :P  Tell me what you think~

Sometimes, I run out of make up ideas and am in desperate need for inspirations.  At those moments, I usually turn to the inter-web for images and videos, tutorials or FOTDs.  (Other times, I flip through my magazine and hard, soft covers of books, too.)  This look was inspired by a face chart I found online, which I believe was one of the MAC's crushed pigment launches charts... I made a few twisted here and there mainly because I do not have all the MAC products, but also because my features are different than a 2-dimensional paper.

One thing I tried but didn't quite love is the obvious lip-line of this look.  It really is a little out-fashioned in my opinion... Anyhow~  Hope you enjoy this post~

Face chart that inspired me:

Holiday Look | Glamorous Gold Glitter

A holiday-appropriate make up with gold glittery eyes on my sister Jen!!

It is an easy look which you can easily adopt to your own needs and products.  The key item in this look is a glitter eyeliner - you can use the liquid type with a wand (which Collection 2000 or Collection makes an array of various colours) - or in my case, I used a gold glitter gel eye liner.  The rest of the face is kept rather simple.  Just some natural long false lashes, a bit of blush and highlight, and a nude pink lipstick.

Again, as many of my posts, I have to apologise for the not-so-good lighting.  We took these shots before she headed out for her dinner so natural lighting was unavailable.  This is going to be Please bear with us!

Products used:

Eyes
GD-1, Kate Gel Eye Liner (limited edition) - lids
Phloof! (F: Frost), MAC Eyeshadow - brow bone highlight
Lust, Urban Decay 24/7 - lower waterline
#01, Gosh - upper lash line
Majolica Majorca Mascara (discontinued)
Koji Dolly Wink Lash Glue
False lashes (not pictured)

Lips (not pictured)
Innocence Beware (Cremesheen), MAC Lipstick

Face
Dr. Wu Extra Hydrating Lotion with Aqua-Collagen
02 Beige Sable, Lancome Effacernes Longue Tenue Long-Lasting Softening Concealer
102 Warm Ivory, Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hour
#O-015, Lancome Photogenic Lumessence Cream Foundation
 #01, Gosh Brow Kit
BRTC BB Sun Pact - just a bit powder on to set the t-zone
Boho Chic, NYX Cream Blush - very dewy and healthy looking!
Suede, Sleek Blush - transition colour
#01, Canmake Shading Powder - Jen likes her face to be slimmed down quite a bit
Bahamas, Sephora Bronzer Powder (discontinued)

Face Mask Collective Review #02 | Asian Sheet Masks

First off, I have too many sheet masks.  I really need to go through them and stop buying new ones.  The first picture shows two of which I bought earlier this year for good purposes: Ari, my swap buddy in the States, wanted some sheet masks for problem skin or treating spots, hence I got her a few types to try out, and I tested the leftovers.

Watch me, if I do not go through at least half of my stash (which should be around 200 out of 400 sachets of these boxed and stashed in my cupboard), I am not allowed to buy new ones.  Samples or my beauty box subscription are excluded, of course.  :P

Review~

Providence Beauty, Spotless Oil Control
I was having a break out on my chin, and I wanted something to treat it, or at least tame it.  It is a fresh hydrating mask, not too moisturising.  Didn't treat nor tame my break out but nice to use.
Overall: Okay

Combos Skin, Tea Tree Balancing Mask
No scent despite it says it have tea tree and witch hazel.  The cloth is medium thickness, soft and feels comfortable.  I like it a lot.  Too bad I shouldn't buy the other 'flavours' to test out.
Overall: Okay

Sasatinnie, Cucumber Refreshing and Clarifying Mask
It kinds of target more oily skin, so it is fresh and helps regulate oil secretion.  I don't find it drying or harsh, it is really gentle.  Not the most nourishing or radiance boosting, but nice and refreshing to use.  (Probably not very suitable for the colder seasons...)
Overall: Okay

White Formula, Super Moist Mask with Hyaluronic Acid
The sheet is super soft and thin, with special texture that adheres to the skin like magic.  The solution is plenty and very moisturising.  It is really penetrating and hydrating, unscented, alcohol-free and suitable for most skin types I would say.  Great one.
Overall: Hurray

Tell me, do you feel like putting on sheet mask in the Winter is a bit too cold and intimidating?  I do think so. Hence the next episode of Mask Review should be on some cream masks, I think.

Have a lovely warm Winter, and Happy New Year!

Finished Fortnight #4 | December Empties

I will very diligently try to make my bi-weekly empties into bilingual posts.  Big challenge.  Huge.  I am most probably going to screw up a few spelling here, and a lot of typing there.  Please bear with me, I am putting in effort!  :D

Skin Care

White Formula, Super Moist Mask with Hyaluronic Acid - Hurray - A full review will be posted very soon, with a few other sheet masks I have recently used.  I love the texture of this sheet in particular.  And.  It is moisturising!
Vichy, Purifying Foaming Water Radiance Revealer (Sensitive Skin) - Hurray - Great stuff.  I used this up within a week.  Mostly in the morning shower (new habit, by the way).  It is very gentle, refreshing, and hydrating.  With the weather getting quite cold and funky (sometimes super humid, other times windy and drying), my skin kind of freaks out.  This helped me to start a day afresh without being too harsh.  Minor drawback though, as with other self-foaming cleansers that come with a pump bottle, the product inside is greatly diluted, so you actually get less use out of the same amount to self-foaming stuff than those you need to add water in by yourself.  Anyway, I will love to use this again!
Mandom Beauty Cleansing Express - Okay - Nice dual-phase, bi-phase, two-layer kind of point make up removers.  It is transferred to the pink Biore bottle because it has a more convenient lid design.  (evidence of the transfer - read here).  It removes make up, water-proof eye make up as well, but not the most effective one in the market.
Naruko Taiwan Magnolia Brightening and Firming Night Cream - Hurray - This particular item was discontinued, and then repackaged.  I haven't use the newer version of it, but I really like this stuff.  A nice thick gel cream for my dry skin in Summer, not nearly enough nourishment in the Winter now though.  full review here.
Korres Wild Rose 24 Hour Moisturiser SPF6 - No Way - Thick, greasy, doesn't absorb nicely.  Low SPF.  Hard to blend.  Weird faint scent.  No good.
Pola BA, The Eye Cream *2 - Okay - Got these samples with a magazine, used up 2 of the 3 sachets.  it is rich and not suffocating, nourishing, but not extremely impressive.  this brand makes super expensive stuff so I won't run out to try more :P
Viscontour Serum - Hurray - only used 1 of these so far (still have 4 tubes to use!), but I can tell it is really nice stuff!  I snapped open one of these and used before my make up as primer on a day my skin was desert dry and not behaving.  my foundation went on very smooth and my skin did look decent!  great great hydrating booster~

Daiso Fragrance Candle "Rose" - Okay - cheap $12 (about 1 brit pound) candle.  artificial scent, burnt just for 20-ish hours.  keep the atmosphere of my home pretty warm though.
Dermagro Hair Rebuilding Serum - No Way - I have little amount of hair and I always feel I am losing more than grow out.  I want to try products that can help me lose less, or even grow more.  This wasn't performing like I want, and it wasn't pleasant to work with.  (weird texture and pearly liquid.. bizarre stuff)
Natio For Men Daily Face Wash *4 - No Way - Used this up as shower gel very generously.  Decent stuff but I'm so fed up with the scent.  I need to get rid of these ASAP!

Miscellaneous 雜項

L'Oreal cotton pads - Okay - free gift with purchase, I used them to remove make up and I find them okay.
Lily Bell Lilian Puff - Hurray - will always repurchase this brand for make up removal.  full review here.
Daiso feminine fabric wash - Hurray - to remove the inconvenient blood stains on fabric, especially those intimate clothing...  insanely effective.
Joseristine make up sponges - Okay - thin tiny rectangle sponges.  cheap and does the job when I apply make up on others.  will probably repurchase when I use up some of the wedges I have.
Miffy baby wipes - Okay - I used these to wipe my desk, laptop keyboard, hands, tools, mirror, etc.  I prefer something thicker and more textured but these are cheap and decent.
An Ikea candle I forgot to picture before disposing - Hurray - I love Ikea candles, too bad they don't have an outlet near me...

Ido Deep-sea Collagen Peptide - Okay - (Just realised this shot makes it look like some sort of box of contraceptive plastic bags!?)  Got this in my September'12 Glamabox.  Wasn't impressed at that time, even a little scared about weird tastes.  It did taste nicely of vanilla, and I use up the whole box with my morning coffee.  Nice stuff to take, but I didn't notice big difference in my skin, nor do I think I will buy another box.

Tossed

Bourjois Gloss Menthol - Okay - too sticky, but I like the refreshing feeling and shine.  Bourjois counters in Hong Kong is doing a back-to-Bourjois programme where you return 5 old products (or containers) to get a 20% off new purchase.  this is going back ;)
Bourjois Concealer - Okay - not my shade for most months of the year, so it went dormant in my stash for very very long time.  love the consistency and packaging, but time to back-to-Bourjois...
Joseristine Bio-technology Breast Lotion - No Way - do not remember why I was tempted to buy this, knowing I would never have the persistance to apply this on regularly.  I am embracing my flat chest and this expired lotion is going to the trash.
Ki Nose Pore Cleanser - No Way - never figured out how to use it, nor find it effective.

Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal - Okay - it is too old the sticker on the packaging peeled off.  (similar product on sassa web - link).  it has no toxic salt that can cause breast cancer, and it lasts forever.  you activate it with tiny bit of water and apply it like you would with other roll on.
Bourjois 10 Hour Sleep Effect Foundation - Hurray - I love this stuff.  It is actually one of my first foundation love.  Tossing this away because it is too old, and product started to separate inside.  I will recommend this to anyone who likes fresh and radiant finish without much need to cover up flaws.

November Aquisition | No-Buy Fail

Aside from some crazy online shopping (Sleek, MUA, Beauty Bay, Cinema Ready Cosmetics, Skindinavia, Glamabox, Shiro Cosmetics) mainly due to promotional codes and the Black Friday sales, I have made some local purchases over the month.  Not intentional.  But for the most part, as usual, I do not regret for what I have spent.  You can see my 6 new Burberry eye shadow palettes in another post - link.  The rest of my 'haul' will be featured in this blog.

Let's start in chronological order~  Price quoted below are all in Hong Kong Dollar.

Mannings
Boots products used to be sold partially in the two biggest local pharmacies (Watson's and Mannings).  Recently, Mannings quite high-profile-ly launch a few product lines of Boots into selective outlets.  I managed to visit two of the stores, and picked up a few of their products with some in-store discounts.  The two travel/trial sets are gift with purchases (any 2 of more items, and over $149).  The Champneys products are buy 2 get 1 (or 3 for 2, depending on how you call it).  There are also $20 dollars off coupons flying around (I used two, meaning $40 off), and Mannings own $50 off skin care vouchers.
Things I have started using and enjoy so far: Tea Tree Spot Wand, Botanics Eye Make Up Remover, Champneys Skin Comforting Body Butter.

Boots, Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Spot Wand (2x3.5ml, $49, Made in Germany) *not pictured

Sasa
Every month there's some Sasa member promotion.  This month with my points, I got a free micellar cleansing water, and redeeming my points, I also got the other two deluxe samples at very low prices.

Elizabeth Arden, Ceramide Capsules (7 capsules, total 3.2ml, $19, Made in Italy)
Collistar, Cleansing Make-Up Remover Micellar Water (50ml, free, Made in Italy)
Nuxe, Reve de Miel Face Cleansing and Make-Up Removing Gel (Dry and Sensitive Skin) (15ml, $10, Made in France)
Dr. G, Expert Root Whitening Care set (White Aura Skin Lotion, 30ml) (White Aura Serum, 10ml) (White Aura Cream, 15ml) ($28, Made in Korea) *I got four sets.
Sasatinnie, Snail Renewing Face Mask (20g x 10 pieces, $30) I got two boxes of these, used and reviewed here - link.  Nice stuff, I must say!

Sasa (again)
I was bored  the other day, while I was once again waiting my fiancé's arrival at the pier's arrival hall.  As usual, I popped into a Sasa and spent time browsing, swatching, loitering really.  At the end, these few bits were brought to the cashier and purchased.

SHL Eyelashes #T13 and #T02 - T13 is long, flirty, criss-cross style.  T02 is straight long and a little more defining and natural-looking.  Both have a black band and quite voluminous.  (HKD$29 for 5 pairs each)
Kanebo Media, Creamy Lasting Lip A #DR-3 - I am totally on a dark lip flu right now.  This is a dark red - probably the reason for coding DR? - that looks almost vampy.  Can't wait to wear it and take some pictures for blog~  (HKD$67 for 3g)

Nail Salon
The nail salon I visited for a manicure trial, and complimentary hand treatment, is selling the Intelligent Nutrients (IN) line of natural/organic hair products.  IN is founded by the father of Aveda.  This bottle (or perhaps most/all of their products) is made in USA.  I have very sleek fine flat hair so I got myself a bottle of Volumizing Spray.  It costs $120 for 60ml of products, not too expensive, but I need to use it more to see if it worths the price tag.

Sasa/Bonjour
A night out with my uni friends gave me excuses to visit the Tsim Sha Tsui area where my favourite big Sasa branch is located.  I picked up two Revlon lipsticks that just hit the store, and a new shade of the La Suffren Matte Lipliner.  Then afterwards I popped into a Bonjour, and saw these little loose powder pot lying around, they're so lovely I had to get them!  There is a third colour which is too dard and I didn't want to buy 'too much' so I put that back down - I call this self-control...

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick #725 Love That Red (Creme) #440 Cherries In The Snow (Creme) ($59, 4.2g)
La Suffren Matte Lipliner #862L ($12, Made in Germany)
Shiseido the Makeup, Enriched Loose Powder ($58, Made in USA)
Shiseido the Makeup, Loose Powder #1 Pink Rose ($58, 9g, Made in USA)

Mannings
I was collecting some Mannings stamps (like your Boots points or loyalty points), in order to redeem a warm thick blanket - excuses.  So I went ahead and procured loads of toothpastes, snacks, and a few pieces of skin care and hair care.

Dr. Morita, Hyaluronic Acid Facial Mask ($19.9 for 5pcs)
Marc Anthony, Instantly Thick Full Blow Out Lotion ($99 for 245ml, Made in Australia)
Mannings Annecy, Repairing HA+ Rose Hip Oil Facial Mask ($39.9 for 6pc)

Sasa
I received a booklet of coupons which at the same time is a Christmas shopping guide.  Inside I find the one and only item I wanted to try, i.e. the new Koji Brow Specialist.  I haven't dyed my hair in months so I went ahead and got the neutral medium brown shade.  There is also a more red (pink brown?) and a blond colour (gold brown?).

Pupa, Hot Tropics Diamond Eyeshadow #01 #02 #04 ($74, 3.5g) *I didn't buy 03 which is a teal colour.  Nikkie from NikkieTutorials compared this to MAC extra dimension skin finish - link.
Koji, Brow Specialist Eyebrow Mascara #Soft Brown ($79 -$5 with a coupon)
