Male and Female-Friendly FOTD

When it comes to make up I wear on my own face every day, there are only two 'extremes'.  A - Lazy easy barely there 4-or-5 products face, or B - ultra time-consuming sculpt and contour which usually ends up with some crazy colourful eyes or dark bright lips.

Type A example: link to a previous FOTD.  This post is a sharing of type B.

Wing Liner and Red Lips

As with most FOTD post, I want to keep this quite short and sweet.  No special techniques employed here, wing liner just requires practice and red lips, courage.  I do really like this combo of a shiny lipstick under a pigmented lipgloss.

What else?  Not much.  This was a make up look weeks (even months) ago, so I can hardly think of anything more to say...  :P

When did you last wear red lips out the door?

Are you more confident in natural barely-there make up (type A) or loud eyes/lips make up (type B)?

五月碎念日誌 | Jacq's Journal 2013 May

A collection of random thoughts or happenings.  New updates will be concatenated at the front. ;)

05-29 (Wed)

This may be the last update of this month.  Well.  Today.  I slipped and dropped $320 at Fraise de Paris.  In return, I brought home two French pharmacy gems - Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre ($180) and La Roche Posay Serozinc ($140).  Tomorrow should be a better day, as I'm going to a facial appointment escorted by Jen, and a manicure date with Wendy - with their eyes watching and really limited cash in pocket it is very likely that I won't spend on extras.  Fingercrossed.

Yes, I reckon that my spending ban is starting to look like a spending spree.  :S

05-24 (Fri)

Tom Ford Seductive Rose purchased for my friend in the States - blog post written here.

New-in | Another Real Techniques Haul

This purchase was caused by several 'good' reasons, one being the restocking of the Real Techniques Duo-Fiber Collection.  Second being I missed the 20% off Coola sunscreen (angry at myself) and saw the Reviva Labs one this week.  Thirdly, as I'm currently fairly (what a humble word) into face mask, I got myself a tub of Aztec clay enabled by Sandra/ttsandra... Lastly, the brand Acure Organics was introduced to me by youtuber Christine/PinkSoFoxy in this video - in which the Aztec clay was also mentioned...

First Impression

I have been using the RT Duo-Fiber brushes quite a bit since I first washed them, and so far, I'm really liking them - Jordan Liberty recently mentioned them in his essential make up brushes and that was a great video to watch.  The Glycolic Acid toner was purchased because I want to attack the bumps and clogged pores under my arms (fancy... :S), also have been using this since I got it after every shower, so far, no adverse reactions.

The rest are just accidents.  Review/posts on them later!

Taking advantage of the 20% off Reviva Labs, I went ahead and ordered my mum some spot correcting creams - Mother's Day presents?  If results are good, I'll probably report back with mum's experience.  Then there's a St. Dalfour tea bag which I have already consumed.  It tasted alright, not so delicious that I will rush out to buy, but one I'm glad to try.  :)

List of everything:

Aztec Secret, Indian Healing Clay, (454 g) $5.99
Giovanni, Hot Chocolate, Sugar Scrub, (260 g) $8.53
Hugo Naturals, Essential Mist, French Lavender, (60 ml) $2.16
Reviva Labs, Glycolic Acid Facial Toner, (118 ml) $6.22
Acure Organics, Cell Stimulating Facial Mask, (30 ml) $13.81
Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman, Duo-Fiber Collection, Limited Edition, 3 Brush $19.99
Reviva Labs, Brown Spot Night Gel with Glycolic Acid, (35 g) $6.74
Reviva Labs, Skin Lightener for Day, Brown Spot Skin Lightening Night Cream, (42 g each) $10.37
freebie - St. Dalfour Organic Lemon Tea

Use Code JBF362 for your first purchase at for up to $10 dollars off!

Which product do you want to hear more of?

100 Day Spending Ban | Week 8 Update

Another week has gone, did I break any rules?  What have I learnt?

1.  A Recap

My rules:
  • No spending on ANY make up or skin care.  No exceptions.  I do welcome free gifts or samples though.  Note: during this span I shall have at least 3 Glamaboxes coming in, so that can keep me entertained!
  • Every single day I survive this ban, I will put HK $100 into my Fun Fund.  When the ban is over, I can treat myself well (perhaps some Burberry or Guerlain make up??).  :D
  • My 100 Day Spending Ban starts on 1st of April and shall end on 9th of July.

2.  Fun Fund (Week 8: 20 - 26 May)

$4,400 + $700 - $300
= $4,800

i) iHerb, 21st May

Made an order on iHerb for the Real Techniques Duo Fiber Collection, along with some other things.  I confess that I threw in some toners and masks so this is a day of violation :(

Good thing is, I ordered some dark spot creams for my mum to test out.  She has a few sun spots that annoy her so I hope what I ordered may help her~  The DHL delivery came in on the 24th, so a haul post will very likely be posted next week!

ii) Caudalie, 23rd May

I have withstood the longest time ever to buy myself a bottle of Beauty Elixir.  The resistance finally broke down, first due to sales, second and more importantly, because of Liv Tyler.  First, the price of these are amazing.  The 100 ml is 280 HKD at Colourmix and 30 ml is 115 HKD at Sasa.  Oh, and Liv Tyler.  One day, I will try out everything mentioned by Liv in the interview by Into the Gloss.  One day.  ;)

iii) Watson's, 24th May

If you are following my facebook or daily updates post, you know I was weak at the 25% off sales in Watson's store.  Out of all brands that participated in the sale (Majolica Majorca, Kate, Media, Palgantong, Clio, Bourjois, Max Factor, Revlon, Maybelline, L'Oreal, Collection/Collection 2000, Lavshuca), the only things that made me spend money on were three Media lipsticks.

Media Shiny Essence Lip "PK-5" ($ 63, 2.5 g) Now $47.3
Media Moist Essence Rouge "PK-1" ($ 67, 2.4 g) Now $50.2
Media Moist Essence Rouge "RS-2" ($ 67, 2.4 g) Now $50.2

3. Lesson Learnt

"Advertisement, spokesperson campaign or advertorial aren't marketing techniques half as effective as making the celebrity (e.g. Liv) use the product and mention it in real (and casual) interviews."

4. Wants or Wishes

I will write these down weekly, and after the 100 day spending ban I will look back and see what I really will buy.  I suppose this is a good way to see how unnecessary some of my desires are...!  I am limiting myself to add one wish per day only, is that considered self-control, too?

Innisfree Almond Sugar Scrub
MAC Eyeshadow - Soba
Muji Lip Balm - Grapefruit (Yuan, again)
Nip+Fab Pistachio Body Butter (inspired by PersianBabe, apparently.  could it be somebody else?)

Tom Ford Quad - 11 Lavender Lust, 12 Seductive Rose (because these are limited Asia exclusives, my friend Angie has already helped me purchased and is keeping them for me~)
Chantecaille Stress Repair Concentrate (I'm gonna treat myself some good eye cream after spending ban... if I behave well in the coming weeks)

Other updates:

2.  Recap of last week's posts:  Another beauty empties post in the name of Finished Fortnight.  Tom Ford eye shadow palette Seductive Rose in all its glory - exclamation!  Two Glamabox posts - a Korean royal secret box by Whoo, and the May monthly box.

3.  Jacq's Journal:  Continual random updates of me, my toys (beauty product musings), and food~

First Impression | May 2013 Glamabox

1.  Kibio Cleansing Lotion

Made in France, this toner-like cleansing lotion smells very strong of essential oils.  Cleanses and soothes, feels great on the skin.  Big Thumbs Up!

2.  Kimiwa Horse Oil Conditioner

Quite thin in texture but does wash off nicely and leave hair smooth and good-looking.  Doesn't have a scent - more like plain aqueous cream than the powder fragrance of Choi-Fung's Horse Oil line.

3.  SwissVita Micrite 3D All Use Skin Serum

Comes in a neat 'clinical-looking' metal tube, like topical drug creams?  This has a very lovely texture, a light gel that absorbs and spreads like a dream.  Has a faint natural scent that reminds me of Chinese dessert or soup.  Leaves skin plump and soft and firm.  Seems very promising!

4.  Energy Bio Cream

With a strong peppermint and herb blend (and scent), this is a great massage cream to relief and combat fatigue.  I sure will use this to massage/ de-stress when needed.

5.  Beautymate Ultimate Whitening Invisible Mask

Will be using this after my snail mask adventure.  I have always loved Beautymate masks so I don't see there's a reason for me to dislike receiving this in my box!

List of Products:

SwissVita Micrite 3D All Use Skin Serum - 50 g (516 HKD)
Energy Bio Cream - 20 g (26 HKD)
Kibio Gentle Cleansing Lotion - 30 ml (30 HKD)
Kimiwa Horse Oil Mayu Bath Essence Conditioner - 30 ml (36 HKD)
Beautymate Ultimate Whitening Invisible Mask - 1pc (20 HKD)

Box content worth: 628 HKD

Overall: Hurray.
This month's box is a good one to me, I always love trying out skin care and the serum in particular is a stand-out!

Just saw this amazing sneak-peek of next month's box, is that a Bioderma?  Go order a box for June if you want some cult favourite cleansing water!  Deadline for the June box is 31st of May.

What would be the perfect beauty box in your opinion?

Full of skin care, make up, bath and body care, hair care or styling, or dietary supplement?

Do you prefer new brands, or well established brands?

New in: The History of Whoo Skin Care

Some Korean brands are always top on my virtual wish list to acquire and try.  Besides Sulwhasoo, Hera and Amore Pacific (all owned by same company Amore Pacific), The History of Whoo is one of them.  Whoo means Queen, and it is a form of the Chinese letter 后 (which also means queen for my non-Chinese readers).  As someone who doesn't spend time watching Korean TV and chasing after Korean celebrity, I still recognise Whoo as the brand of Lee Young-ae 李英愛.

Whoo vs Sulwhasoo

Some articles call Whoo the LG company's answer to the very successful Sulwhasoo brand.  This I cannot argue, but my first impression with these products is very positive.  They are packaged in an extraordinarily neat manner and the scent and texture feel lovely.  Both brands claim to have complex (ancient?) formulae of rare Chinese herbs and medicine that work miracles for the skin.  Sulwhasoo reminds me of straight-up ginseng, while Whoo is a bit obscure to me.  Research has to be done on their ingredients and pricing but I'm pretty confident that Whoo is some promising competitor of Sulwhasoo.  ;)

Whoo x crossover x Glamabox

This box set is a collaboration of Glamabox and Whoo.  I believe Whoo is not officially represented in HK yet, hence the description of this set comes in simplified Chinese (from the Shanghai distributor).

For Glamabox subscribers like me, this box costs 138HKD only.  Even if you're not subscribed, you can get it for 208HKD, which is a great deal when any beauty store outside can charge you 50-60HKD for one little sample pot.

Now that I'm typing out the how much the individual item in this sampler kit, I totally want to go back to the site and order more sets... (I most probably would!)  Let's see how they perform, I'll be starting with the whitening line~

Things in the whitening set

Step 1: Gongjinhyang:Seol Brightening Cleansing Foam 13ml 雪珍白潔面膏 (worth 23HKD)
Retail Price: HK$285/160ml
- probably the least exciting thing in the box, but cleansing can be the most crucial step in a routine!

Step 2: Gongjinhyang:Seol Whitening Skin Balancer 20ml 雪珍白液 (worth 59HKD)
Retail Price:HK$385/130ml
- I am a sucker for toners and my skin will drink this up in no time!

Step 3: Gongjinhyang:Seol Whitening Essence 8ml 雪珍白精華液 (worth 174HKD!!)
Retail Price: HK$980/45ml
- serum for all over the face

Step 4: Gongjinhyang:Seol Whitening Intensive 4ml 雪珍白顏膏 (this itself worths 182HKD!!)
Retail Price: HK$910/20ml
- intensive whitening care for spots and discolouration

Step 5: Gongjinhyang:Seol Whitening Lotion 20ml 雪珍白乳 (worth 89HKD)
Retail Price: HK$490/110ml
- last step mosituriser

Ja Saeng Essence 4ml 秘貼煥然新生精華液 (worth 99HKD)
Retail Price: HK$1,120/45ml
- watch model Lisa's video

Qi & Jin Cream 4ml 拱辰享:氣韻生滋養霜 (worth 84HKD)
Retail Price: HK$1,050/50ml
- this smells of sophisticated ginseng

In Yang Sleeping Pack 1ml x5 拱辰享氣韻生睡眠面膜 (worth 33HKD)
Retail Price: HK$490/75ml
- I love this convenient packaging, I can use one at a time without contamination and struggling with the quantity!

Tom Ford Eye Color Quad | 12 Seductive Rose

Immortally gorgeous.

Gram by gram more affordable than Bobbi Brown.

Tom Ford Eye Color Quads.

There are two Asia exclusive quads released.  11 Lavender Lust and 12 Seductive Rose.

I believe Singapore and Hong Kong are the only places where you can get them, and we have them priced cheaper (550 HKD).

I purchased both - along with the too-popular Cognac Sable - but I keep them at my girlfriend A's wardrobe on purpose.  Only when my spending ban ends am I allowed to retrieve them.  Am I too harsh to myself?

This is the palette I purchased for my friend in the States.  Therefore there are no swatches.

For the time being, feel free to read about my previous Tom Ford Golden Mink make up look.

Okay - Bourjois Healthy Mix #51 - This is a medium/good coverage foundation with a satin/semi-matte finish.  I prefer the more gel-like and dewy finish of the HM Serum foundation.  The colour match is great.

Hurray - Ren Mayblossom T-Zone Control Cleansing Gel - A very light cleansing gel that cleans and tones, leaves skin clear and comfy.  I want to try more Ren products desperately!

No Way - Laneige Perfect Renew Cream - "enhances elasticity and moisture barrier with repairing effect".  Smells too strong in my opinion.  Texture is great, but no observable results.  Note: texture (that makes the product feel good on the skin) and active ingredients (that deliver results) are two different things in products.  This has lovely texture but works nothing on my skin...

No Way - Talika Lipocils Eyelash Conditioning Gel with Liposomes - Expensive, brush/wand thing too big, results not significant.  (mainly too expensive :S)

Hurray - Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray - Very fine mist, nice bottle and spray design.  Moisturises and refreshes skin very much.  Adore this stuff.

Skin Food Hydro Fitting Snail Mask Sheet (Hydration Type) // Tony Moly Intense Care Snail Hydro-gel Mask - Please wait for my next snail mask review!

Hurray - Mask House MultiFruit Yogurt Mask (Strawberry Hydrating) - Featured in my mask cocktail, this is a delicious, fun and relaxing pack to use.  Enough for two full face applications!

100 Day Spending Ban | Week 7 Update

2.  Fun Fund (Week 7: 13 - 19 May)

$3,900 + $700 - $200
= $4,400

i) 13th May:

To tackle Monday blues, I went ahead and did some damage at Sasa buying Dolly Wink.  Pencil Eyecolor (85 HKD) for highlighting tear-duct area.  This helps achieve the innocent bright eye look.  Also picked up two Eyebrow Pencils - 3 Dark Chocolat, 2 Chocolate Brown (65 HKD each) because I wanted the liquid eye liner gift.  I must have gone out of control quite a bit...

When I got home, I saw on Glamabox's facebook page their special Whoo box.  The History of Whoo 后 literally means the beauty secrets of queen.  It has been on my radar for a while but nothing came as close as this box in terms of price and convenience to obtain.  So I picked up one for myself and one for my cousin.  138 HKD is a great value for getting a taste of Korean royal luxury~

ii) Prof. TK:

Mother's Day was a sales peak among Taiwan online and offline shops.  Everyone of them is doing discounts or value sets or cash-back.  After some elimination - Dr. Hsieh and Dr. Douxi (sorry, next time) - I have craved in and made an order off Prof. TK dot com.  Taiwan media (or bloggers) hold Prof TK in some of the highest regards available.  Their Bio-Cellulose Masks and Three-Toner Method has been talked about a lot.

Mandelic Acid is a really intriguing ingredient to exfoliate and gently renew the skin.  Cousin H raves about the Dr. Hsieh's 10% MA, which I will some day get a bottle of, so often, that I cannot take my eyes off the Mandelic Acid promotion of Prof TK.  I picked up one of each from that line, along with some masks.

I am stupidly/evilly not going to count this as violation - don't judge me.  Plus, I think I hauled in at least two blog sales - one of make up, one of dress and shoes...

iii) June trip to Taiwan:

Mr A and I will be visiting Taiwan in early June, three days in Taichung following by four in Taipei.  It's been less than a year since our last visit so I am hopeful that I can restrain myself from over-hauling.  Books and skin care bits seem unavoidable.  My wish is no new make up come home with me - possible?

iv) 15th May:

Speaking of Sasa.  I shouldn't even allow myself to set foot in one.  With a 50 HKD cash coupon in hand and a voucher to redeem free gifts, I did more damage to my wallet...

Flower Embossed Cotton Pad 80 piece (Sasa link) $15 HKD for 2 packs
Green Acne Medicated Skin Mist $98 HKD for 250 g
Naris Up ACMedica Medicated Acne Care Mist (Japanese link) $48 HKD for 150 ml
Naris Up ModeReal 3 Way Powder - 01 Natural Brown (Japanese link) $89 HKD
Naris Up ModeReal 3 Way Powder - 02 Dark Brown (Japanese link) $89 HKD

v) Freebies:

Neogence, Dr. Jart+, Beyond, blotting sheets, Methode Swiss - from Sasa.
Clinique CC Cream - from Clinique counter.

3. Lesson Learnt

歷史是沒有任何教育意義的。」--{黃子華 @嘩眾取寵}

From my beloved stand-up comedian Dayo Wong, "History serves no educational value."

4. Wants or Wishes

I will write these down weekly, and after the 100 day spending ban I will look back and see what I really will buy.  I suppose this is a good way to see how unnecessary some of my desires are...!  I am limiting myself to add one wish per day only, is that considered self-control, too?

- Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation (video review by lisasz09)

- Fresh Peony Whitening Night Treatment Mask (blog review by Jess/hakme.  I am also eye-ing at the Fresh rose line, will be added to wish list one by one later!)
- Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask
- Pai Camelia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser (one of ttsandra's favourite)
- Innisfree Jeju Fermented Leaven Mask

- Innnisfree Soybean Energy Essence

- Innisfree Red Ginseng Mask

By the way, I tried to put in equal number of high-end and low-end items onto my wish list, to keep things 'in balance'.  After 7 weeks of editing down, I realise I have eliminated quite a few of the low-end wishes.  Perhaps this is my evolution?

Face Mask | Cocktail Style

Considering the mere size of my mask stash, I should have used them way more often than I do.  Trust me, I'm making up for that using a concoction of potions and clays every time.  How?

--whisper: I won't admit I'm showing off my lash extensions in the pictures above, although that is the only reasonable excuse of posting such disgusting portraits online! Judge not my hair band nor my pajamas, muchos gracias--

1.0 Cleanse:  This usually comes in a form or another of clay or thicker cream.  Labelled as clarifying, pore-minimising, deep-cleansing, purifying, they take away dirt and grease and prep my skin for the following steps.  My skin is normal/dry most of the time, but recently, due to the adverse - using this adj. casually here - humidity, it has become more normal/combination with an oily and unruly T-zone plus cheeks close to my nose.  I concentrate the deep cleansing clay in the centre of my face thinning it out-wards.  Sometimes I don't even cover the outer perimeter of my face.

1.5 Eyes:  With some eye masks lying around, I figure it is a good time to apply this at the same time with the cleansing step.  I do a thin layer of the gel eye mask hoping that my dark circles, delicate skin and fine lines in formation will be combatted.  Same as the other masks, I smooth the product on my face with a mask brush - similar to that shown in this picture.

2.0 Hydrate:  I took off the previous masks with a damp cleansing sponge.  For the next step, you can go way further, a firming cream, a whitening masque, or like me, a hydrating pack, as you wish.  After the cleansing with clay, skin is more ready to absorb beneficial ingredients you feed it with.  I picked a delicious treat that makes my mood flies high and skin baby smooth.  Dessert served with a brush, instead of a spoon.

3.0 Sheet:  Similar to the previous step, this can be of your own skin needs or tastes.  I am opting for some snail servings as I'm in the process of reviewing an array of escargot sheets.  Otherwise, feel free to throw on any type you fancy, soothing, moisturising, revitalising, refreshing, refining, calming... The key?  Pick your own favourite keyword!

4.0 xxx:  You can take this cocktail method as far as you'd like.  Feel free to do a step four or five...  Perhaps a toner-soaked-cotton mask, or a sleeping mask?  Do whatever you, or your skin, prefer!  This method is applicable to any steps of your skin care.  You can do a cleansing cocktail party with micellar water, oil, and bubble; or a serum cocktail party with firming, whitening and hydrating potions.  Currently I have been experimenting with the toner cocktail every night, with at least three toners applied one after another.  Mainly for fun, but I've noticed great results.

List of products used, with short reviews:

Montagne Jeunesse Damask Rose - Drooling rose scent.  A clay that is not drying.  Dries up quite a bit and hardens, therefore I spray my face all over with a toner before I wash off with a wet sponge.  Great clay for the normal/combo skin, may not be strong enough for the oily-ers.

Helenere Cellular Eye Mask (link) - Eye care is a preventive measure one will never regret starting too early.  This mask is a light gel that keeps my eye area smooth and soothed.  Nothing miraculous, as (knock-on-wood) my eye area has been alright for the time being.

Mask House MultiFruit Yogurt Mask (Strawberry Hydrating) - Reminds me of the old school Skinlite mask sachet I got in Sasa when I had a very very tight budget as a student.  It is still available online, how surprising!  You have to massage those beads after you apply, before you wash off, to release the secret power (if any) of the product.  This smells delicious.  One packet of this is more than one use so it lived in my fridge overnight and will be consumed tonight.

Tony Moly Intense Care Snail Hydro-gel Mask - An 'Okay' one.  I will do a better review when I try a few more snail masks.

100 Day Spending Ban | Week 6 Update

Another week has gone, did I break any rules?  What have I learnt?

1.  A Recap

My rules:
  • No spending on ANY make up or skin care.  No exceptions.  I do welcome free gifts or samples though.  Note: during this span I shall have at least 3 Glamaboxes coming in, so that can keep me entertained!
  • Every single day I survive this ban, I will put HK $100 into my Fun Fund.  When the ban is over, I can treat myself well (perhaps some Burberry or Guerlain make up?? Tom Ford!?).  :D
  • My 100 Day Spending Ban starts on 1st of April and shall end on 9th of July.

2.  Fun Fund (Week 6: 6 - 12 May)

$3,200 + $700
= $3,900

Last Friday I made an appointment for lash extension - first time in my life.  Because of that, I went ahead and purchased two lash serums from Sasa, both not too expensive - Astraea V. Lash Treatment ($79.2, 7g) - BCL Browlash EX Longrowrepair Booster ($105).  I do not have any lash serums in my stash so these aren't regarded as violation.  ;)  If you want more photos or chats regarding my lashes, make sure to check out my updates.

On Saturday, we had Mother's Day celebration at home.  Ordered a whole bunch of seafood and spent the whole afternoon de-freezing them and cutting them apart.  Mr. A was responsible of shucking the oysters, there were 8 pieces each of 4 types, and he broke zero out of the 32!  That makes me so proud of him, a first-timer.  (Hail youtube, as we find this extremely helpful tutorial!)  My sister also made potato salad, and we ended the evening with slices of New York Cheesecakes.  The place I shopped at was Ocean Party, the set I picked was party for 8, and the cake was from John and Jills.  Their food choices are amazing, prices aren't crazy, and delivery was well-packed and on-time.  Highly recommend!

3. Lesson Learnt

As spending ban moves into the forty/fifty days mark.  I am getting more at ease.

Distracting attention from make up and skin care to beauty treatments seems to help.  Besides extending my lashes, I'm now looking for manicure/pedicure places.  My friend W recommended Laka, which I haven't tried and is interested in visiting.

Of course, quality time (and food) spent with family is always a win-win solution to beauty spending.  I spent several Tom Ford palettes worth of cash on the food!  XD

4. Wants or Wishes

I will write these down weekly, and after the 100 day spending ban I will look back and see what I really will buy.  I suppose this is a good way to see how unnecessary some of my desires are...!  I am limiting myself to add one wish per day only, is that considered self-control, too?

- MAC Eyeshadow - Charcoal Brown, Ricepaper, Naked Lunch, Copperplate
- Yuan Revitalizer (Snail and Rose - the perfect concoction!  Yuan's review)
- Give and Give Aqua La Beau (Yuan's review)
- Give and Give Venus Lotion (all over face/body lotion - Yuan's review) Can't you tell I'm a huge fan of Yuan!?!?

Other updates:

1.  Blog Sale is updated!  Please go and have a look.  Link in the tab on your top left, or this link.  I am really desperate in clearing out my stash.  If something catches your eye, pop me an email or comment, perhaps you can take them cheaper than listed.  ;)

2.  Recap of last week's posts:  Some Glama-items I picked up before, and after the start of 100 Day Spending Ban - great deals.  Beginning of yet another Project 10 Pan, this time I'll be doing it alone.  Take a look at what came along with my Real Techniques brushes, some are actually edible!

3.  Jacq's Journal:  Inspired by some Taiwan bloggers, doing a monthly journal which I'll update from time to time; I know I can do it on facebook or twitter or instagram, but my blog is where I belong - therefore I'm documenting it here.

3.  I am planning to do a sneaky overseas MAC order with the help of my friend T.  The order will probably mostly consist of brushes (not counted as make up or skin care), but are there any make up or skin care you recommend me to try out?

New-in: Haul

As mentioned in my previous 100 Day Spending Ban weekly update, I placed an order on when there was a 20% off Real Techniques brushes.  Main reason was to get my cousin a set of Travel Essentials, but I went a little - just a little - over-board and ordered a little more.

Note: use code JBF362 to get $5 to $10 off your first order off!

Hair Care and Deodorant

  • Mane 'n Tail, Herbal Gro Shampoo, 12 fl oz (355 ml) $4.11 - I am enjoying the de-tangling spray I got in my last iHerb order, therefore decided to try out the shampoo.  Mane 'n Tail is very expensive in local stores so I am glad I can get these from iHerb!
  • Avalon Organics, Biotin B-Complex Therapy Thickening Shampoo, 14 fl oz (414 ml) $7.29 - My friend Hakme has raved about the Avalon Organics line on her blog (hair care/shower), and because I'm staying away from local pharmacies (I'm prone to buying skin care 'accidentally'), I decided to order a shampoo to try out.
  • Alba Botanica, Clear Enzyme Deodorant Stick, Aloe Unscented, 2 oz (57 g) $4.37
  • Jason Natural, Deodorant Stick, Purifying Tea Tree, 2.5 oz (71 g) $5.04 - Using this now, smells really refreshing of tea tree and doesn't irritate my arm-pit.  :P
  • Alvera, Aloe and Almonds, Roll-On Deodorant, 3 fl oz (89 ml) $3.84 - For Mr. A~
  • Mineral Fusion, Volumizing Shampoo, 1.5 fl oz (44 ml) $2.72
  • Mineral Fusion, Volumizing Conditioner, 1.5 fl oz (44 ml) $2.72 - The Mineral Fusion line is on sale so I decided to give these two a go.  Perfect size for a short holiday.  I'm vulnerable to anything volumizing, grow, or thickening when it comes to tresses, can't you tell?

  • Zico, Pure Premium Coconut Water, 11.2 fl oz (330 ml) $1.90
  • Naked, 100% Coconut Water, 11.2 fl oz (330 ml) $1.93 - Both of these are from Brazil green coconuts.  I have never tried these before.  Now that I have, I am not impressed.  Our Asian coconuts are way more delicious, sweeter, better taste and 'smoother'.  I bet this is a healthy way to quench thirst, well, not going to repurchase; we have better coconuts at this part of the world!
  • Stash Tea Company, Premium, Herbal Tea Sampler, Caffeine Free, 9 Flavors, 18 Tea Bags, 1.0 oz (30 g) $2.37 - Tried a couple of flavours, the mint is really strong and uplifting, the passionfruit is fruity and adds a splash of good mood to a dull day.  A great way to taste several flavours in 1 box before committing to larger quantity!
  • Triple Leaf Tea, Blood Pressure, Caffeine-Free, 20 Tea Bags, 1.4 oz (40 g) $4.30 - For Mr. A.
  • freebie - St. Dalfour Organic Spring Mint Green Tea - this taste fresh and nice, may repurchase!
Real Techniques!

  • Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman, Travel Essentials, 3 Brushes + Case $28.78 (Qty: 2x) - One for my cousin, one for me!  This is my second set and I am so in love with the Multi-Task Brush and Domed Shadow Brush - not so much the Essential Foundation Brush, but that's Okay for me~ ;)

BlogLovinTwitter FacebookGoogle+ Instagram

Go get yourself some Real Techniques brushes now!  I'm sure I will make an order very soon, for the new set of 3 dual-fibre brushes.  For first-timer at, use code JBF 362 for $5 - $10 off your order.  That is almost free shipping if you choose the cheapest option!

New Project 10 Pan: Make Up Items Only.

I had a little Project 10 Pan competition with Sam in the month of February and March.  After that was over, I took a little time off and started my spending ban in April.  Now that another month has passed, I figure it would be interesting to start another P10P, encouraging myself to use (up) more of my stash!  I realised I didn't properly do a conclusion on the last P10P I did with Sam, so I'll briefly talk about it at the end of this post~

1.  New P10P Rules:

- Purely make up products.  I go through skin, hair, body care much quicker.
- Use up the entire thing.  If it is a quad, then all four colour should be finished.
- 1 month update/conslusion post.  Items can be switched in and out for next month.
- HK$100 will be added to my Fun Fund whenever a product is done. (You need to follow my 100 Day Spending Ban to understand "Fun Fund".)

2.  Contestants:

Bobbi Brown, MAC, Lakme, Clinique, Maquillage, Canmake

Complexion Make Up:
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit - Sand (old packaging) - Full review post
BRTC Aqua Rush Water Drop BB Cream - Full review post
Canmake Soft Touch Foundation - 03 (discontinued) - Full review post
Shiseido Integrate Lasting Liquid Eyebrow - #1
Shiseido Integrate Lasting Liquid Eyebrow - #2
MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance Base Visage

Colour Make Up:
Clinique Quickliner for Eyes - 03 Roasted Coffee - FOTD post (with video!)
MAC Paint Pot - Soft Ochre
Shiseido Maquillage - PK357 (limited edition) - FOTD post
Lakme Nine to Five Kohl Ultimate (Black) - FOTD post

3.  Short Recap:  My Last P10P with Sam

Sam and I competed in finishing up more.  I finished up 6 of the items, tossed out 1, and 3 remained.  I learnt from this experience that I have greater 'power' to completely go through hair, body and skin care than make up.  That's why my new P10P is make up only.

Body/ Skin Care:
Vaseline Cocoa Butter Smoothing Body Butter - Done! - Empties post
Ryoe 呂 Anti Hair Loss Shampoo (unsure of the name) - Done! - Empties post
Dr. Wu Hydrating System Extra Hydrating Lotion with Aqua-Collagen - Done! - My full review
Naruko Narcissus Total Defense Fundamental Serum (discontinued) - Done! - My full review
Dr. Hauschka Lip Balm - Done! - Empties post

Make Up:
No.7 Poppy King Lipgloss - Tossed
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector - Light/Medium - Done! - Empties post
Clinique Quickliner for Eyes - 03 Roasted Coffee - FOTD post
Canmake Cream Cheek - 01 - My full review
Clinique Derma White Spot Concentrate Concealer SPF 21/PA++ - 02 Medium

I'd really love to know more interesting ideas/projects to do with beauty!

What kind of exciting project are you up to?  Buying new things, better things, more things?  Or on the opposite, buying less, using up, and clearing out products?

Beautiful wishes,
Lazy silly Jacq :")

Acquired: from GlamaEvent and GlamaBox

I placed an order on GlamaEvent before my 100 Day Spending Ban began, and then another ban-breaking check-out from Glamabox - confession made.  Now that I definitely have enough face masks to last me until 2015, I am also definite to stick to my Spending Ban (and Embargo), my living space is so cramped that I find suffocating!

GlamaEvent is a platform similar to HauteLook where brands occasionally put their products on sale for a limited period of time.  This is the first time I have ordered from them, mainly because they are giving out a free Glamabox (of that month) as gift with purchase of certain amount - lesson learnt.  My cousin wanted to try out the famous YSL Touche Eclat Illuminating Foundation, hence we combined our order.  She got her YSL set and I got some skin care bits.

From a totally brand new company called Fresca, I picked up their Petit Fresca Skin Treats trial set.  Fresca is a Japanese brand (brand homepage) and it seems to have good reviews on @Cosme (Japan's beauty review/shopping heaven).  The kit is called reborn me! and everything inside is named very interestingly: cleanse me! (Radiant-C Cleanser II), replenish me! (Hydrating Lotion II), vitalize me! (R3 Complex Serum II), vivify me! (Botanical Gelée Mask), defend me! (Day/Night Moisturizing Créme II), shield me! (UV Herbal Gel 40 SPF40 PA+++), restore me! (Soothing Eye Gel II).  The packaging is to die for!!  I am planning to give these a test and review them in a separate post because they are so cute!

I also restocked on one of my favourite sheet masks from Louvier - their Moisture Mask.  Did a review on it before, and glad to find it on sale!  Balm Balm has been popping up here and there on various blogs and I decided to give this serum a try.  It is a very moisturising oil-based serum and I am still saving it as recently my skin has not been lacking moisture nor oil but clarity.
  • YSL 年輕妍活 黑色化妆袋套裝 HKD 228 - My cousin's, not mine.
  • fresca Skin Treats 全效護膚7件套 reborn me! Skin Treats HKD 199 - Amazing deal!  It was listed at 3,885 yen.
  • 英國 Balm Balm 神奇玫瑰果精華液 Little Miracle Rosehip Serum (30ml) HKD 162 - It is just £13.25 on the UK website.
  • Louvier DNA 藍銅嫩白蠶絲面膜 Moisture Mask (26ml x 20片) HKD 109
From the 'free' Glamabox, after splitting some items with my cousin:
  • La Roche Posay Uvidea XL Melt-in BB Cream SPF50 PA+++ - 01 (3ml)
  • Proactiv Renewing Cleanser (120ml) - Benzyl peroxide wash, I use this on my back (used up one in my last empties post)
  • Dermal Special Formula Absolute Whitening Pure Mask (30g)
GlamaEvent is a fun and exciting way to shop, I am always tempted to shop there when there are brands I fancy.  The whole limited time discount thing is so addictive!

Glamabox DIY - 2nd round

When Glamabox put out the DIY concept the first time, I craved in and ordered one.  If monthly beauty box subscription is a fantastic way to try out products, these DIY boxes are marvellous, better way to pick what one wishes to try the most!

This time, I managed to stock up some of my favourite great products that Glamabox sells - Viscontour and Sen by Kim Robinson offer great ones!  The DIY box costs HKD $188 each, and I picked up two, because I want to qualify for free delivery!

On the other hand, new things I cannot get more excited about include: AFU (homepage link), an aromatherapy brand from China - yes the Mainland China with Simplified Chinese, not the Traditional Chinese area (HK, Macau or Taiwan).  Apparently it is a very popular brand up North, so famous that there are fakes online - don't ask me how to distinguish real from fake!  With Glamabox, I trusted their source so I picked a mask and an essential oil to try out.  Hair loss or hair thinning is always a concern for me, while I'm pretty laid back with my hair routine, anti-hair-loss shampoo and rinse can be easily incorporated into my schedule; American Dr. D will try to fight for that slot.  While Proactiv's Renewing Cleanser is trying to help out my back acne with benzyl peroxide, I am ready to combat any intense break-out with the Refining Mask, a sulphur treatment.

Things that I pick:

  • BioHerb Derma Miracle Series Arbutin and Tranexamic Acid Whitening Mask (30ml x 5pc)
  • AFU 阿芙•玫瑰谷酸奶花瓣面膜 Rose Valley Ultimate Whitening Yogurt Mask (15g) - homepage link (Chinese)
  • Viscontour Topical Hyaluronic Acid Serum (5 x 1ml) - mentioned in previous empties post
  • 高絲 Kose Clear Turn White 透明質酸保濕面膜 (1盒 x 5片)
  • Timeless Truth 蠶絲活酵母激活面膜 Organic Silk Fiber Elixir Mask (1片 x 30ml)
  • Be Creation Lucky LT 修護潤澤眼膜 Eye Mask (4對 x 10ml)
  • AFU 阿芙•天竺葵精油 Pelargonium Graveolens (1ml) - homepage link (Chinese)
  • Proactive Refining Mask (28g) - Sulphur acne treatment
  • Kerasys 修護洗髮及護髮素 Damage Clinic Shampoo + Rinse (60ml + 60ml)
  • Dr. D Biotech Laboratory Anti-Hair-Loss Follicle Revitalizing Shampoo (2 x 40ml)
  • Dr. D Biotech Laboratory Anti-Hair-Loss Anti-Breakage Treatment Conditioner (2 x 40ml)
  • Sen by Kim Robinson 滋潤修護系列洗髮水 Moisture and Repair Shampoo (2 x 8ml)
  • Sen by Kim Robinson 滋潤修護系列護髮素 Moisture and Repair Conditioner (2 x 8ml)
  • Darlie Expert White Prophylaxis Toothpaste (120g)
Things that came as extras:
  • The Body Shop Natrulift Firming Serum (5 x 1.5ml)
  • Eternal Concept Dead Sea Treatment Aloe Vera Gel (5 x 2.5ml)
  • Dr. Cell Clear Washing - already gifted these away as I'm not a big fan~

I hope you find this review/haul helpful and intersting~

Do you like the idea of DIY beauty boxes?  Share your experience with any products mention above, that might help me/others out a great lot!

Beautiful wishes,

Lazy silly Jacq :")

100 Day Spending Ban | Week 5 Update

2.  Fun Fund (Week 5: 29 April - 5 May)

$2,600 + $700 - $100
= $3,200

On 30th April I received a lovely envelope of Korean skincare from my friend L (instagram).  We were schoolmates just about a century ago... When she posted about face masks laying around her place, I asked if there's any Snail or Snake variety for my trying - shameless Jacq.  There were some conversation back and forth on Whatsapp, and the next day, she threw in the mail all the bits I gathered in the first two pictures.  Brands include: Tony Moly, Skin Food, Etude House, It's Skin, and Nature Republic.  I will be continuing with my snail mask review (first episode), and be sure to let you know what I think of these!

On 1st of May, while I was spending time in the mall between lunch and tea, I stepped into a Sasa and accident happened.  Mr. A was with me.  He said redeeming gifts with points is not counted as spending, plus, he was going to pay.  So I went ahead and picked up a few May's VIP gifts, along with 3 for $10 masks which has a Snail amongst them.  (Can't you tell, I am really desperate to try out all affordable, reachable snail masks out there!?)  However, I'll be honest with my little spending ban, and count this a day of violation.  ;)

On 3rd of May, I received an email promoting the free nip+fab gift bag with £30 on LookFantastic.  I finally craved in and made an order.  It only consisted of two Macadamia Natural Oil hair products, i.e. not banned in my ban.  I blame Hakme for my order!  A separate haul/review post will be cooked and served when mail arrived!

$10 for 3 Masks.
  • Red Skin Aloe Vera Moisturising, Soothing and Hydrating Mask
  • Red Skin Caviar Repairing Essence Mask
  • Red Skin Snail Hydro-Gel Mask (actually just wanna try this!)
Below are all the VIP redemption:
$53 For Beloved One Extreme Hydration Bio-Cellulose Mask
$99 B-liv by Cellnique "Knock Off Age" Age Dismission Original Japan Silk Mask
$95 Phytodess Paris Vitamin C Shampoo
$19 Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Purpose Dry Oil (this is a repurchase, I got two little bottles!)
$59 Reskin Solution Mist Glacier Express

3. Lesson Learnt

Back to week one.
Quote: "Marketing, promotional emails are dangerous, especially when electronic payment is that easy to make.  Stay away from clicking into those links!"
4. Wants or Wishes

I will write these down weekly, and after the 100 day spending ban I will look back and see what I really will buy.  I suppose this is a good way to see how unnecessary some of my desires are...!  I am limiting myself to add one wish per day only, is that considered self-control, too?

- Evie Amazingly Soothing Makeup Remover (company homepage)
- MAC Face and Body Foundation - C1 (Because C2 is a hint too dark for my taste.  I'm also thinking of getting the white one for mixing, any idea?)
- Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation (If it's good enough for Elle, it is good enough for me)
- MAC Blush - Peaches
- Bobbi Brown Stick Foundation
- MAC Cremesheen Lipstick - Creme Cup
- Give and Give Aqua La Royal (A Japanese brand Yuan raves about.  This is the 'serum' lotion.  There's also a 'cleansing' lotion... need to put that in next week's wish list!)

Other updates:

1.  Blog Sale is up!  Please go and have a look.  Link in the tab on your top left, or this link.  I am really desperate in clearing out my stash.  If something catches your eye, pop me an email or comment, perhaps you can take them cheaper than they are.  ;)

2.  Recap of last week's posts:  Overview of my 8 month subscription of Glamabox.  An amazing spoil swap with Traci my instagram/twitter lover.  Second instalment in the snail mask review series.  Updated inventory of my cleansing oils and waters.  Finally, bilingual bi-weekly empties as-known-as Finished Fortnight.

3. All I want for when the ban's over, maybe some Tom Ford eyeshadow palettes.  I want the gorgeous copper Cognac Sable and Asia-exclusive Lavender Lust and Seductive Rose.  The best part is they're only sold at $550/US$70 each (cheaper than Singapore or USA or UK), and my friend A may have discount.  Yea, ignore the lengthy Wants or Wishes I have been making weekly...

Time flies!  Now that I'm entering the second month of the spending ban, I'm feeling pretty comfortable saving than splurging.  (not that I have the best start of the month)  How are you doing in the month of May?

Beautiful wishes,
Lazy silly Jacq :")
