100 Day Spending Ban | Week 4 Update

Another week has gone, did I break any rules?  What have I learnt?

1.  A Recap

My rules:
  • No spending on ANY make up or skin care.  No exceptions.  I do welcome free gifts or samples though.  Note: during this span I shall have at least 3 Glamaboxes coming in, so that can keep me entertained!
  • Every single day I survive this ban, I will put HK $100 into my Fun Fund.  When the ban is over, I can treat myself well (perhaps some Burberry or Guerlain make up??).  :D
  • My 100 Day Spending Ban starts on 1st of April and shall end on 9th of July.

2.  Fun Fund (Week 4: 22-28 April)

$1,900 + $700
= $2,600

I brought an item for exchange at Sasa and got the cotton pads above in return.  Heard great things about these slightly exfoliating cotton rounds and I genuinely have not had any.  I still have boxes of Naruko left for toner/emulsion purposes but for cleansing, I want to try something new.  These are from the brand Ultra Ready.  Each bag has 80 pieces and is sold at $12.5.  I have tried it a few days now; and so far, I really like it!

Real Techniques are on 20% off on iHerb.com (until 1st May!).  So I helped my cousin picked up a set.  I was a very good girl I did not purchase any skin care nor make up for myself in that order.  (Brushes are tools/accessories!)  Although, I must admit, the Physician's Formula and a few other skin care brands are tempting... I only bought some shampoo and deodorant, alongside other groceries.  I will post the 'haul' when the DHL delivery man handed me that box!

Note: use code JBF362 to get $5 to $10 off your first order off iHerb.com!

3. Lesson Learnt

Focusing on what I really need - necessities - and small things can make a huge difference.  Small things can keep me happy.  Can't you tell that I am having high hopes for the cotton rounds?  :D

4. Wants or Wishes

I will write these down weekly, and after the 100 day spending ban I will look back and see what I really will buy.  I suppose this is a good way to see how unnecessary some of my desires are!?

- Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick - 423 Pink Velvet
- Caron Paris Loose Powder (Jen talked about it during our meet-up last week, and sent us CafeMakeUp and Tprofet...)
- Chapstick Fresh Effect (anything Yuan raves about will have a special place in my mind)
- Le Metier de Beaute 'Radiance' Powder Rouge - Whisper (also talked about by Yuan...)
- MAC Blush - Pink Swoon
- Tom Ford Cognac Sable (I have always wanted one more TF palettes, and Yuan made me want to get this...)
- MAC MSF - Soft and Gentle (Tao's favourite means I need to get it some time in my life)

Other updates:

1.  Blog Sale is up!  Please go and have a look.  Link in the tab on your top left, or this link.  I am really desperate in clearing out my stash.  If something catches your eye, pop me an email or comment, perhaps you can take them cheaper than they are.  ;)

2.  Recap of last week's post:  Illamasqua Haul with nail polishes and some extras.  FOTD featuring MAC cream contour and the Balm Balmbini palette.

Glamabox April 2013 (and 8 Month Review)

After receiving 8 out of the 12 boxes (I made an annual subscription), I think it is about time to give an overview of the boxes.  This may help some of you decide on whether you may want to try out Glamabox, while at the same time help myself out with answering 'should I renew my subscription?'

April 2013

Can I say I'm really excited as well as quite disappointed with this month's box?  I am over the moon when I see the three good size skin care samples, and one full size moisturiser.  However, I am not that happy with the Chicken Essence.  Not a fan of grocery in a beauty box.  Boo.

Box content:  Dr. Cell All in One Face Gel ($250, 50g) is the full size gem of this box.  I have had their cleanser in previous boxes but it is too basic to win my love.  This gel has Coenzyme Q10, Collagen hyaluronic acid, amino acids and more.  I tried it on and it felt very soothing and moisturising.  The second thing that definitely caught my eye is the Ren Mayblossom T-Zone Control Cleansing Gel ($330, 150ml).  Countless times I have heard the UK ladies glorifying this brand, first time I've ever encountered a sample myself!  This is perfect for the current weather as the pollution and humidity is causing my pores to congest, esp. around the nose and chin.  It has an amazing natural floral aroma and runny gel texture.  Just give a mild foam, and rinse off easily, leaving skin soft as baby bottom!  :D  The other two skin care pieces I have not yet tried, but will very soon do.  O'slee Honey Sugar Mask ($98, 100ml) is a fresh lemon honey scented sugar scrub/mask.  It can be used on wet or dry skin, interesting!  b-liv by Cellnique Off With Those Heads Blackheads Sebum Gel ($490, 45ml) is a treatment gel with Tea Tree Oil, Peppermint Oil, Aloe and Witch Hazel.  Finally, the item that is now living in my fridge and does not interest me at all is called Yuantsuei Essence of Chicken ($310, 7 packs/box).  Never been a fan of chicken essence since forever...

Worth:  $250 + $11 + $10 + $33 + $44 = $348

Overall:  Pretending I do not see the chicken essence, this is a Hurray box to me.

FOTD: MAC Sculpting Cream, Chanel Inimitable, The Balm Balmbini

This is not the first time I blog about this Balmbini palette.  In fact, I have a FOTD with it already.  So, one day I suddenly want to use this palette to create a look, and play with two new (new-to-me anyway) items, so this make up was done.  I didn't like these lashes, so I tossed them after taking the pictures.  Also had a little experiment with the brow shapes, so please bear with me... Everything else look a little out of place, I hope you wouldn't mind, too much.  ;)

(Lengthy) Step by Step

For the base, I did one pump of L'Oreal Lucent Magique Light-Infusing Foundation.  My colour is N2, the second lightest of the Nude family.  I dotted it all around my face with fingers, blended in a bit and finished off by patting my whole face with a sponge.  I sincerely adore this foundation, and made my cousin go buy one for herself already.  I shall do a full review on this later, I hope I remember.  Brows were re-created with Make Up Forever Aqua Brow #25 with a Kate brow brush.  I attempted a new shape, a straighter, less arched frame, but I guess I shouldn't use this colour.  #25 is quite naturally dark and the line texture the Aqua Brow gives is quite 'stiff'.  Next time I shall try a lighter colour shadow, something softer in tone and texture.

For the eyes, I used Gosh Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Truly Brown all over my eye lids and tight line.  Blended out the edges with a few brushes - I was experimenting - I then move on the shadow.  But before that, let me confess that Gosh Velvet Touch isn't the best eye liner for this purpose.  It is quite water-proof and smudge-proof, unlike khols or other creamy smudge-able pencils.  My bad choice, lesson learnt.  Okay, let's move on.  From the The Balm Balmbini palette, I took the shadyLady eye shadow in Jealous Jordana on a no-brand flat shadow brush and patted it over the brown base.  I then took the Sigma E25 Blending Brush to blend the shadow out and into my crease.  The size of this brush is quite big compared to my lids, but it does the blending job pretty nicely.

Before applying these no-brand crazy lashes I got from taobao, I experimented with a new tube of mini mascara.  I got a sample of the Chanel Inimitable in Noir.  It was the first time of me using it and it was still quite wet.  Most of my eye lash curler work was undone by the mascara.  Oops.  I will try it again in a week's time to see if it will be better.  So I move on to my Koji/Dolly Wink lash glue and stuck the lashes on.  After the glue dried a bit, I took a random detail brush, got some Elizabeth Proofit Gel Liner (Black) on, and hide the band of the falsies.

After the eyes were done I went back to concealing, contouring and setting.  Clinique Derma White Spot Concentrate Concealer SPF 21/PA++ in 02 Medium was applied where needed, e.g. around the nose, chin, under the eyes, top of my cheeks, etc.  After gently patting the concealer in with a Real Techniques Contour Brush, I had the brilliant idea of highlighting the under eye area with The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer.  With Real Techniques Setting Brush, I dusted that under my eyes, and on brow bone, top of cheek bone, bridge of nose, places where you would normally highlight.  Under my cheeks I took a Real Techniques Stippling Brush and, for the first time, dipped it into MAC Sculpting Cream in Coffee Walnut.  I only placed the brown cream under my cheek bones.  First impression?  It is pretty easy to blend and looks natural.  The colour works for my skin tone and so far, I have nothing bad to say about it.  If you have any tips on how to use cream contour, please share with me below!

Finally on my lips and cheeks.  I put on different blushers on either side of my cheeks.  On my right, The Balm DownBoy was dusted on.  It is a light cool pink, matte finish.  On my left, I placed The Balm Hot Mama, a medium coral pink with high golden shimmer content.  I think for a look with these eyes and lips, Hot Mama looks better.  On my lips I applied the The Balm Read MyLips lipstick in Wanted, also from the Balmbini palette, with a lip brush.  It is a very sharp pink red, feels amazingly comfortable on.  In another take, I rubbed most of the lipstick off with a tissue, re-applying the Tinted Gloss in Special Edition; to be honest, this pulls the whole look together much better, but well, I love my red lips better, still!

The second look, with light gloss instead of red rouge on lips

Hope you enjoy this pretty word-ful FOTD post!  :D

By Air: Illamasqua Nail Polishes

I encountered some issues with Illamasqua last Christmas.  For some reason, probably related to air mail policy, they cannot ship out the nail polish order I made.  It is not until a good few weeks later, that they resolved the issue and figured out a method to handle such orders.  My box came in tact and safe, though late, I have no complain.

What I got:
Illamasqua Nail Varnish - Prism
Illamasqua Nail Base Coat
Illamasqua Nail Varnish - Scorch
Illamasqua Nail Varnish - Harsh
Illamasqua Nail Varnish - Glitterati
Illamasqua Nail Varnish - Viridian
Illamasqua Cream Foundation - CF100

100 Day Spending Ban | Week 3 Update

2.  Fun Fund (Week 3: 15-21 April)

$1,300 + $600
= $1,900

Last Thursday, I had a date with three other beauty bloggers who're also based in HK.  We had food, (a lot of) chats and talks, finished off with a massive beauty exchange/swap.

On the same day, I visited a private sale of Kesalan Patharan (KP) where they also sell a few Anastasia Beverly Hills products.  My cousin purchased a foundation and lipstick on clearance, while I only picked up one brow kit.  It cost me $385 for the Brow Kit below, not cheap compared to the US price, but considering I can't get it here otherwise, I find this price acceptable.

Anastasia Brow Kit - Medium Ash

Then my cousin and I went on a mini pilgrimage to the newly opened Innisfree store at Causewaybay.  The store was not big, but well furnished and more importantly, well stocked.  I am not particularly keen on the most things the brand has to offer, so I only looked at the special sets.  I got the $110 Jeju Volcanic Pore Care 3-Step Kit with a full size mud mask, travel size cleanser and toner.  My skin has been a little congested recently so I figure this is a nice set to try out.  However, both my cousin and I find the very popular best-seller Green Tea Seed Serum a bit 'meh'.  That set, also with cleanser and toner, was $210.  The store has gift with purchase when you reach various benchmarks; we're just not tempted/fooled!  The It's Real Rice Mask was a free gift with any purchase, I think.

Finally, the climax of the day, the blogger dinner meet-up!  I am the first to arrive at the Wired Cafe, at booking time~  Address: Shop 1403-04, 14/F, Hysan Place, 500 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay

Jess, also known as Hakme, came next.  She has already posted about our dinner meet-up, go check that out!  Then came Dorothy, who tote around the whole bag of goodies for our exchange to and fro her biz day-trip to the next city (SZ).  Finally there's Jen, the mysterious one whom I've wanted to meet for quite a while, since she doesn't show her pretty face on her blog!

Our three hour dinner include an insane load of product names, blogging experiences, shopping discount tips and beauty lemmings.  The dinner was supplemented with lovely food from the cafe (yes, food has a lower priority when it came to our meet-up!).  I especially love the funny concoction of rice, salad, fish eggs, tuna and avocado mixed together (weird does it sound, delicious it tastes!).

Jacq, Dorothy, Jess, Jen!

The highlight of the night was probably our beauty exchange/swap.  We started off sending each other masks to try out, and followed with samples, full size, used, even brand new products.  I bet most of us thought we can come full handed and leave empty (or lighter) handed, which didn't happen.  We all brought away bag(s) of stuff... At the end, Dorothy and Jen refused to bring home some (nearly new) make up, we even force one another to bring those back to blog-sale.  Result?  I brought them home, so they will sponsor my future giveaways.  Keep an eye out on my Twitter ♥ Facebook ♥ Instagram !!!

Conclusion?  We hoard too much.  XD

Stuff I got:

Dorothy's secret gift to each of us!

3. Lesson Learnt

Next time I want to try out certain beauty product I should just text my blogger friends.  Chances are, they already have it and they want me to take it rather than it taking up their storage space at home.  Let me bear this in mind and not spend any more in this spending ban!!!!

4. Wants or Wishes

I will write these down weekly, and after the 100 day spending ban I will look back and see what I really will buy.  I suppose this is a good way to see how unnecessary some of my desires are!?

Chantecaille Lipstick - Petunia (I forgot where did I read about this, does anybody know if it is still available?)
Kate Cream in Rouge - PK-1 (swatched them in store and it seems to me dupes of OCC Lip Tar)
- Fresh Soy Face Cleanser (because Jess/Hakme raved about it!)
- Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick - 616 Wink for Pink, 415 Pink in the Afternoon
- Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Compact Foundation (because gh0stparties blogged about it...)
- Clinique Derma White Clarifying Brightening Lotion I/II (went to the counter to test out some sunscreen, and the beauty consultant applied this on my hand, really helps with exfoliation, brightening and moisture.  Now I'm using the Hada Senka one I own.  Keep reminding myself that I don't need 10 bottles of toners...)

Disney, Mystic Manor/Mystic Point, Iron Man mask!

Other updates:

1.  I am doing an international giveaway on Instagram - hint: there's a NYX palette sponsored by Jen - be sure to check out my instagram! My username is jacqlibra~

2.  One of the 'swap-lifters' identified.  I will assume it is a 'she' for the time being.  She has been changing her instagram username constantly, when she contacted me she was @sugarplumprincess7, later she became @cyruslove77 and most recently she is using @prettypink777.  I sent my parcel to Anais Evans at state CA, USA.  This person's Kik username is sugarnails.  Today her display name is Oni E.  She said she sent her box on the 27th March by air with US $30 cost and refused to pay for registered/signed-for service.  If she really sent what she said, it should have cost only half.  To certified I have sent my part, I paid for a certificate with HK Post's stamp and chop.

3.  Two swap boxes arrived from the States and UK respectively.  I am spoilt by their packages and there are so so so many products I don't know where to start!?  Thank you Traci and Jenny! ^.^

4.  I was invited to visit the new attraction of Hong Kong Disneyland, so I bought my mum a ticket and together with Mr. A, in we went!  The new area/ride Mystic Point is beautiful and very well-made.  The day was amazing for a number of reasons, first, it was my mum's first time in HKDL, and the first time me and Mr. A went together; second, there wasn't too many visitors despite it was a Saturday probably because it poured around noon and discouraged people to go; third, the weather was finer than fine in the afternoon when we were in.  :D

New-in | Second Trip to Mi Ming Mart

I obtained a $100 off coupon with my last order, so I went back and used it.  I only bought one item, i.e. the pHion Green Superfood (180 capsules).  Originally it is $320 a bottle, with my $100 off coupon, I paid $220.

This is the capsule form of the green powder which is supposed to have a great bunch of raw whole vegetables, roots and fruits ground together.  I didn't enjoy that very much, mainly due to the hassle and the taste.  Therefore I spend my dollars on this capsule alternative, hoping I will get more frequent intake out of it.  I will report back how well I like this, probably when it is emptied?

Review of previous purchases

You can look at my previous haul post here, with everything I got and some initial review.  Things I love are the pHion Master Cleanse Lemonade Diet, which I can now buy on iHerb (link, use code JBF362 for discount), and the Synergie Skin Uberzinc sunscreen/sunblock.  The Synergie sun protection is a very nice day moisturiser and primer for make up.  I will do a better review on it later.  Of course I also love the Koji Eyelash Fix White (Sasa link), which came as a free gift.  It dries clear, holds all day and is so easy to remove from the eye and the false lash band.  Very affordable too!

Things I do not love are pHion Green Superfood, i.e. the green powder, and pHion Ionic Colon Cleanse.  Because of their taste I am not willing to take these, and now they're sitting half opened in my kitchen... I guess they perform, but I can't tell, as I have not been taking them regularly.

I have not much to say about the pHion Probiotic Blend, which I finished the whole bottle but not notice anything different, or the Queen Photogenic False Lashes, which I haven't even worn once.

Will I shop at Mi Ming Mart again?

Probably not.  I am on a strict (not so strict?) spending ban right now, so although I do have the loyalty stamp card from MMM, I cannot go back to buy any time soon.  Right now, I do not think they stock anything I want to try in particular, and that I cannot get elsewhere.  Well, except some more Synergie skin care... Do tell me if you recommend anything from MMM though!

Are you diligent in taking dietary supplement for health or for beauty?  What supplements do you take?

Finished Fortnight #10 | 非常簡短的空瓶分享

This has been a week late, well, but here it is!  A "Beauty products I have used up", or "Beauty empties", however you like to call it, post.  Last week was a bit crazy so I even skipped posting my FOTD Friday (I had the products and face shots taken, just didn't have time to put them together).. You can know more about what happened to me in my last post - the weekly spending ban update...

Anyway! This fortnight has been a good one, I went through several full size items, including the makeup shown in the picture above.  I want to have this posted ASAP so I'm sorry if the review/description below is very brief.  You can always leave me a comment if you want to know more.

100 Day Spending Ban | Week 2 Update

2.  Fun Fund (Week 2: 8-14 April)

$600 + $700
= $1,300

Despite going out to buy some pieces for beauty swaps (I'm only doing swaps with the facebook group I mentioned in my last post), I have not 'slipped' and bought myself anything beauty related.  I purchased a lot of snacks though, because that's what I allow myself to buy, and I need to treat myself for being a good girl!

Also, I did make Mr. A pay for an annual renewal of a magazine subscription for me.  Basically because I kept all my credit cards locked up at his apartment (nice little trick), and that magazine subscription came with a few gifts - which I have not received yet.

3. Lesson Learnt

Keeping myself occupied with serious things, really help distract me from beauty shopping.  Serious things such as liturgy/run-down of the holy matrimony, writing the letter, spring cleaning my wardrobe (this process normally takes 6 months, while the rest of the year will be an autumn cleaning, go figure...).

4. Wants or Wishes

I will write these down weekly, and after the 100 day spending ban I will look back and see what I really will buy.  I suppose this is a good way to see how unnecessary some of my desires are!?

I am limiting myself to add one wish per day only, is that considered self-control, too? :P

- Lavshuca Dramatic Memory Rouge - PK3 (yes I'm lemming for more)
- Lavshuca Jewel Lips N - PK4 (intrigued by this post by Go Halainn)
- MAC Eyeshadow - Nylon (because Tanya Burr constantly raves about it, more recently in her March Favourites video)
- Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage
- Lush Roots (a newer scalp mask Lush brought out, I have a serious lemming over more Lush products as my Big is running out, and I want to collect more black pots for 'recycling')
- Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (I have a feeling this will be a great Big Day foundation, thanks Lisa Eldridge for putting it in her Foundation video.  like, am I serious to add any more foundation to my wish list?)
- Bourjois Rouge Edition (lipsticks, not that I need any really)

Other updates:

1.  Swap lifters?  Sorry about grumbling about this on and on, but I'm really upset.  If, by next week, I have not received those two parcels, I will considered them thieves (or at least their parcels lost).  I have contacted both of these ladies.  One of them refused to reply to me, despite her still online and the message showed a 'R' (read) instead of 'D' (delivered).  If I am upset enough, I will list her username(s) out, not her correspondence address, so that you can decide for yourselves if you'd like to swap with her.  Wicked thing, her instagram name has since changed, but her kik account is still there.  I have proof of sending both parcels out, which I paid for as an 'insurance'.  Tell me, does posting their account/username make me sound bitchy?  (truth is, even if that is bitchy, I might as well post it.  for your safety.)

2.  Happy news!?  I have reached over 222,222 pageviews last Saturday.  I was glaring at my monitor and with one F5 (refresh), I jumped from 222,218 to 222,223.  Hence my screen-cap above.

3.  Will be meeting Jess, Jen and Dorothy this Thursday for the first time.  That's gonna be a splash!  :D

Thank you for reading!  Check out Blog of Shadows for a list of other blogs who're doing the 100 day spending ban also~

New-in: Korean Beauty Purchases

I know, I know, I've published a post talking about not buying any more beauty products, or a 100 day spending ban.  The truth is, these aren't procured after that ban, it is before.  It is just that I do not have enough space in that post to mention all of these....

Shameless Spoil #15 | Women's Day Benefits

Another (nearly) "Wordless Wednesday".

On the eighth day of last month, I made Mr. A purchased me a couple items from Benefit's USA website as the International Women's Day present.  There was a free shipping with US $60 purchase or so going on, so I picked until I reach the benchmark.  Note: subscribe to their newsletter if you'd like to know their latest free shipping promotion.

Anyway, the order arrived and I managed to take a few pictures before testing out the Fake Up Concealer.  Swatches of the 01 Light and 02 Medium shades of Fake Up is also done for you!

I have also done a review on the Confession of a Concealaholic Kit.  Go read it if you haven't already.

100 Day Spending Ban | Week 1 Update

One week has gone, did I break any rules?  What have I learnt?

1.  A Recap

My rules:
  • No spending on ANY make up or skin care.  No exceptions.  I do welcome free gifts or samples though.  Note: during this span I shall have at least 3 Glamaboxes coming in, so that can keep me entertained!
  • Every single day I survive this ban, I will put HK $100 into my Fun Fund.  When the ban is over, I can treat myself well (perhaps some Burberry or Guerlain make up??).  :D
  • My 100 Day Spending Ban starts on 1st of April and shall end on 9th of July.

2.  Fun Fund (Week 1: 1-7 April)

$700 - $100
= $600

Breaking the ban:

On day 3 I broke the ban once.  I received an email from Glamabox promoting their DIY box re-launch.  I bought one of those last time and I really enjoyed it (my post here).  So, immediately, on my iPad, with just a few clicks, I paid with Paypal and off went $376 - yea, I didn't got 1, but bought 2 boxes.  I will do a more detailed post later - together with my previous GlamaEvent haul... The picture above is a sneak peak at what my two boxes are like...

My previous Glamabox DIY post - click this image for the link.

3. Lesson Learnt

Marketing, promotional emails are dangerous, especially when electronic payment is that easy to make.  Stay away from clicking into those links!

http://instagram.com/p/XmVv2kLwLa/

4. Wants or Wishes

I will write these down weekly, and after the 100 day spending ban I will look back and see what I really will buy.  I suppose this is a good way to see how unnecessary some of my desires are!?

- Guerlain Eyeshadow Base
- Pupa Diamond Eyeshadow
- Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector
- Lavshuca Dramatic Memory Rouge - PK1 and PK2
- MAC MSF Natural - Light and Light Plus

Other updates:

1.  I received a new phone for Easter from Mr. A, replacing my WhiteBerry.  It is a Sony Xperia TX.  Not a very new model, but it serves me well.  Although Xperia cannot compete my ex-Blackberry in terms of email handling and typing, I don't mind.  I now mainly check and reply to emails on my iPad (which was also a gift from Mr. A last Summer).  My new phone makes instagramming so much easier, and the Xperia cameras, the main one and the front small one are really nice.  I am loving it!

2.  Have you read my Lunableu haul yet?  Winner of the giveaway has been announced there.

3.  Google Reader will be phased out in two months time, if you do not want to miss my future posts, or any other blogs you are following, alternative methods are required.  I suggest you try out Bloglovin, Facebook and Google+.  I am on all three of them, and they are good ways to keep connected to blogs/bloggers and new posts.  Of course there is also an option of Twitter, which I sometimes find difficult to keep track of everyone, as I probably follow too many people?

4.  Later this month I will be attempting a blog sale, again, probably.  I'm sorting out products and waiting the Sun to come out for photographing.  At the mean time, feel free to have a sneak peak (facebook album).

5.  Project 10 Pan with Sam is officially over.  I may do a separate update on that later (or maybe not).  I used up 6 items, tossed 1, and 3 I can't finish.  In short, I won, and Sam will be sending me a prize box.  Thanks Sam!

6.  Inspired by Australian blogger Makeup and Macaroons, I will do a product directory of some sort.  Right now I'm making a page of make up items, and a google spreadsheet of all skincare items.  It is quite a task and I'll let you know when it's ready.

7.  Learnt about a giant blog platform called Paperblog, they cover every single topic under the sky and it is so impressively massive.  Go take a look of it.  It is pretty addictive.

Paperblog

8.  Got connected with a bunch of lovely HK bloggers recently, and our whatsapp chat has been non-stop!  Check out these ladies' blogs, they are cool! Hakme/Jess, Jenni, Dorothy, and Winsome.  :D  We're planning beauty chat-swap-meetups later this month and if we do, I'll definitely report back how much fun we have.

9.  I realise that I might have been swap-lifted.  Not once, but twice in the month of March.  If those two parcels are not coming in in the coming week, I most likely have been.  It sucked to be robbed.  Of course I do love doing swaps, sending and receiving goodies with near-strangers or blogger-friends, but the sorrow of losing money and being cheated just make me feel not worth it.  I do have a facebook group of genuine ladies that I will lay my trust on though.  It is a private gang of over 100 beauty lovers, thanks Noire for the invitation.  ;)  From now on, I will not be doing any random swaps with people whom I have never swapped with before.

Thank you for reading!  Check out Blog of Shadows for a list of other blogs who're doing the 100 day spending ban also~

Review: L'Oreal Lucent Magique Foundation N2

Full Name: L'Oreal Lucent Magique Light-Infusing Foundation SPF 24 | PA+++

Price and Packaging

The foundation is priced at HK $155.  Purchased this foundation last October, when they were doing a 30% discount on the Lucent Magique line.  So I bought it for just above $100.  Pretty good price.

It came in a glass sturdy bottle, sleek and pretty.  The pump is present and is painted rose gold as with some writings on the body, elegant.  For its price, and a standard 30 ml of product, I think this is a big stand-out foundation.

My Review | The Look and Last

L'Oreal Lucent Magique says it has "Light Light Technology TM" which will give skin a "Lit-from-within Complexion Perfectly Flawless Finish".  Basically that means glow, and coverage two in one.  I will call it a medium+ coverage, not as light as MAC Face and Body, similar to Revlon ColorStay Whipped.  It gives a noticeable glow, borderline 'shine' to the complexion.

My colour in N2 is from the Neutral family for skin with neutral undertone.  I believe there is also a G for Golden/yellow undertone and R for Rosy/pink undertone.  It suits my lighter skin days perfectly.  But even on my dull skin days (the day I took my pictures below), it blends in nicely enough and brighten up my dull face.

I have normal/dry skin, turning into more normal/combination as the temperature rises.  Weather has been humid but cool these weeks so I can't speak for the real Summer as yet.  The formula lasts all day (at least 6 hours) on me with a tiny bit of powder to set my under eye concealer, cheeks (pore issues) and forehead.  I don't have issue with this oxidising or transferring throughout the day.

FOTD: They Are Real Lashes

still bare lips

lips and dress added

Yes.  A Face of the Day for a Friday!

Yes.  I can also fake the long full lash look without wearing actual fake lashes.  :)

Yes.  I took the inspiration from Benefit's mascara name.

Yes.  You can't tell what eye shadow I was wearing; given the two portraits above are both shot with my eyes open; but hey, that's what I see when I have my eyes open, too!  Story of Asians with 'Hidden Double Eyelids'.

Yes.  I look pretty swollen and silly in these photos, but I really can't pick any use-able pictures other than these.

Yes.  My words are about to end here.

Review | Garnier BB Eye Roll-on

Full name of this product in Hong Kong is Garnier BB Eye Roll-on.

This is not new!  I feel like it has been out forever.  I'm probably the last one on blog-world to give this a review.  It is that late that I guess Garnier is phasing this out from local pharmacies; I saw these on 50% off (both the eye roll-on and the bb cream) at Mannings for a few weeks.  Although it is now returned to original price, I'd say go grab it before it is gone!  I am seriously contemplating on whether I should get a back up... but when did I last finish a 15 ml concealer?

People are talking about this all over the world.  However, I think Garnier/L'Oreal named this product differently in different market.  So, although I am guessing the formula is nearly the same, I can't be sure.  Here I'm linking to a few other blogs which you may find useful: Sam (from UK - link), seven321 (from Taiwan - link, link), Anna/TheStyleDiet (from Ireland - video link), Sheryl/pincstuff (from Canada - video link).

His Hair Story Episode 2 | Nanogen Haul

Recap of previous episode: Mr. A has been gradually using up the Lush and Rene Furterer shampoos and treatment.  When asked about which will he recommend and consider repurchasing, Mr. A said both Lush solid shampoos.  When asked about the overall review of the Rene Furterer treatment (after a total of 12 weeks), he said the effect was not impressive enough.

Newly acquired: Nanogen products

I first heard of Nanogen through UK blogger, also my swap buddy, Kiran from My Cherry Lane.  She did an amazing post on Nanogen's marvellous creation of Nanogen Fibres.  I highly appreciate Kiran's bravery and honesty, and that's what I adore beauty blogs for: we are real!  (Big applause for her sharing)  Anyway, after reading her post, I kept this product in mind for a long time, until one day, I began to google whether I can obtain these products in Hong Kong.  And guess what?  I can!  I found the website of Nanogen HK, and started looking through their range of products, and facebook, and youtube.  Non-stop.  The brand, to me, seems very neat and effective (good marketing perhaps?), so I decided to get some for Mr. A to try out.

Great Customer Service, and a Discount for all of my readers

I noticed in their 'Blog' page that they had an offer for some of their products, but it was over!!!  Being a very smart customer, I emailed the company and asked if they can give me the discount, although it expired a few weeks ago.  And again, guess what?  They said yes - how generous!  They also said if my blog readers are interested to try out their products, just email them directly, and they will offer 10% off everything to you!  :D  (Note: Nanogen HK delivers to Hong Kong and Macau)

Nanogen Fibres: Stunning Camouflage

The Nanogen Fibres are very fine natural keratin that come in shaker bottles (like pepper and salt).  There are 10 shades available, which, I guess, cover all 'natural' colours human beings may have.  For normal East Asian hair, I guess Black (for real black thick-in-diameter hair, or dyed-black hair), Dark Brown (normal black hair, like Mr. A or my family in general), Grey and White will work.  Mr. A has about 10% of white hair, so as a professional Makeup Mixer (borrowed this term from Anna from VDM), I picked Dark Brown and Grey for Mr. A.  You can see the results below, it is sensational.

Experiment: Conceal and Style?

Mr. A has a little 'Mediterranean Sea', not too big an issue, but enough to demonstrate the camouflage effect of the Nanogen Fibres.  I picked two shades, one in dark brown, another in grey.

First I dust a bunch of dark brown onto the 'Sea' area, just like you would shake a pepper bottle.  I blended it in slightly with my fingers, and then continue with more grey colour.  The grey one appears to be quite dust-looking (due to the colour, of course) so I cover it up with an extra layer of dark brown.  The effect was amazingly natural.

After the dark brown - grey - dark brown sandwich camouflage, the sea was reclaimed!

I set the reclamation with a couple of 'spritz' of the Fibre Locking Spray and the results held all day long.  Personally, as I knew there is product, I find the reclamation area a little 'dusty', but that's only under direct sunlight and very close examination.  However, I don't know if others will find the same.  So, I asked every one in my family whether they find Mr. A's hair to be any different or strange.  They all noticed the disappearance of the 'sea' and no obvious reclamation.  That, I call a success!

I am showing the rest of what I procured, with some of their ingredient lists.  However, as Mr. A hasn't been trying them out properly yet, review will come later!

Note: I asked the customer service through email, whether the conditioner or hair mask should be applied to the scalp or not, as some of the products out in the market suggest not to.  Nanogen replied saying their products can be applied to the scalp.

Remember to email them and get 10% off if you want to purchase - good for my HK and Macau readers!  I am not being compensated, just want to share the news with you guys!
