Sexy Sienna Lip Swatches | and Matte Revolution Dupe?

From the finish on the lips, can you tell which is Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution?

In my recent Kiko hauls (plural, see here and here), I've mentioned that the lipstick in the Twin Stars set resembles greatly of the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution.  I know there's another MR Lipstick in my CT Book of Makeup Magic but today as Monster Roma was taking his long morning nap (under the effect of 4 drug syrups) I decided to swatch my CT Sexy Sienna along with all the four Kiko Twin Stars with a full face of makeup - planning to do a FOTD on that, looking forward to it!

Apologies, but this month's daily blog posts could be quite CT-heavy, mainly due to the unboxing of Magic Book.  Anyway, if you'd like to see more of any other brands or blog posts, just comment below. ;)

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution - Sexy Sienna

All five have the same bullet shape, which has a very distinct rectangular top.  For the nudes and lights the shape doesn't add any special advantage or disadvantage to the application.  But for the bright red (Kiko 04 Uniquely Red) this is a huge bonus;the bullet greatly facilitates precise application and helps shape a clean lip line without the assistance of a brush or pencil.  I imagine this will be the same for other darker or brighter CT MR shades too.

For my bare lips (bottom right in each photo), and before each lipstick application I put on Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick SPF15.  It may not be the best lip prep for this swatch session as it is rather glossy and did affect the result.  However, sometimes I am brainless and at all times we should regard the condition of our lips, no?

The finish of both are creamy matte, not flat, full matte.  CT says it has 3D pigment to make lips fuller, wider, lit from within, etc.  I find it smooth, hydrating and very comfortable.  Kiko ticks all the same boxes if not more (it's less than half the price!).

In all the pictures I was styling a messy pony tail, an old t shirt and Mr. A's aromatic lounge top.  Very fancy indeed, and I have no intention to change into anything else despite wearing a full face of (heavy) makeup.  #glamorous

I used natural gloomy daylight and didn't tune anything, even white balance, in my photo editor.  The only editing I did was collaging.  Looks like my Samsung NX Mini has some built-in beautifying selfie function which blurs out my skin texture when I'm doing full face.

A gift (blog post) my friend Sam in London got for me.  After short-listing to perhaps two or three shades, I asked her to pick the more youthful looking orange/peachy option for me.  This is in fact what I asked for.  The colour is a medium peach that warms up my complexion whether I'm heavy or light handed with the rest of the face.  Charlotte did say she created this shade for blonde-tan Sienna Miller or Gisele (Bundchen I suppose?), yet I still find it suitable for my kind of light East-Asian skin tone.

01 lavish beige
Lavish Beige is the first shade I picked up from Kiko and is still my favourite.  It is a medium pink/mauve nude that looks more beige swatched, but blended on my lips, less brown.  It is muted enough to pair with brighter or heavier blushes (I often go crazy handed with my cheek brush) and even smoky eyes (not that I wear that anymore, sigh, no time to do eye make up).  The depth and complexity of it is also defining enough if I'm wearing barely anything else on the face.  A great everyday and every occasion shade.

02 - no idea why I look shades darker in this full face shot than the others.

02 divine peach
A pale peachy lips may probably make my complexion look more tan than it actually is, based on the camera's own perception.  It is lighter than my lips but still has good enough coverage to nude out my natural colour.  I don't think I will wear this much on its own, but probably layer it with other lip liners, lipsticks or mixed with glosses.  A great shade if you're after tan skin and want your lips to look nude and big.

03 radiant mauve
The Kiko's interpretation of 'mauve' is really a hybrid of pink, rose and beige hues.  Many of the colours I own from this brand with 'mauve' in the name tend to be pinks that flatter me, or, that I like on myself.  This is the coolest of the four Twin Stars, which can look bright and mildly clash with my yellowish complexion.  However, I find it a pink that looks young on without being too neon or childish.

04 uniquely red
Uniquely Red is a surprise.  When I put it on my hand in store, the 1st and many following times, I did not realise how bright and brilliant it was.  Now that I've finally applied it onto my pout, I am stunned.  I though it was a neutral (or cool) red but on my face it leans a bit on the warm (orange) side.  Nonetheless, warm or cool, it is a vibrant statement lip choice and one that stays.  When I did the photos above, I save this red for the last and wore it through two meals.  After a generous portion of noodles, several wings, many cups of beverage, the general red lips are still there, faded evenly.  It could be illusion but I feel more awake and put-together wearing this, not to mention, my teeth seemed to look whiter!

Final words?

Either formula works and wears the same on me.  If you can find a colour you fancy from Kiko (and if you have access to its store, physical or online), buy it now.  It is so affordable and of such high quality!  Before they sell out or discontinue the Comsic Starlets collection, grab yourself a piece, or 4.  I highly recommend 01 Lavish Beige and 04 Uniquely Red, depending on your taste and preference.

On the other hand, Charlotte Tilbury makes amazing packaging: the rose gold is to die for, and the 10 shades she created are spectacular; modern, classic, flattering and beautiful.  If you want to treat yourself a high-end lipstick, I highly recommend trying out a CT MR!

Now I'm seriously curious about which MR is hidden in my Book of Makeup Magic.  I hope I can unbox it soon!
